Apple Martin is proving that great fashion really can run in the family. The 22-year-old model and emerging actress stepped out in Brentwood, Los Angeles, wearing a floaty white sundress that looked strikingly similar to one her mother, Gwyneth Paltrow, wore in 2005.
With her long blonde hair styled in loose, beachy waves and a pared-back selection of accessories, Martin appeared to have stepped straight out of one of Paltrow's early-2000s style moments. The resemblance was particularly striking given that Paltrow wore a similarly fluttery white dress while promoting her film Proof in 2005.
Apple Martin's Familiar White Sundress
Martin's latest look was quintessentially summery, with the white dress offering a soft, feminine silhouette that felt both relaxed and polished. She paired it with brown accessories, including a tote bag and loafers, while oversized sunglasses added an understated celebrity touch.
Her signature blonde hair completed the look, worn loose in beachy waves. The combination of the dress, hair, and minimal accessories made the look feel particularly reminiscent of her mother's wardrobe from two decades ago.
Paltrow's 2005 Proof appearance featured many of the same style codes. The actress wore a ruffled white sundress with a similarly floaty finish and wore her blonde hair in long, loose waves.
The comparison is less about Martin wearing an identical outfit and more about her recreating the Gwyneth Paltrow aesthetic that defined so many of the actress's looks during the 1990s and early 2000s.
And this is hardly the first time Martin has dipped into her mother's fashion archive.
Apple Has Already Been Raiding Gwyneth's Wardrobe
Martin has been refreshingly open about her love for Paltrow's old clothes. In a 2026 Vogue interview, she described her mother's wardrobe from her twenties as one of her favourite things and said thinking about the clothes made her emotional.
She has also previously spoken about borrowing pieces from Paltrow's wardrobe, particularly her vintage Calvin Klein and Prada pieces from the 1990s.
That love of fashion history became particularly obvious in December 2025, when Martin wore a black Calvin Klein Collection dress that Paltrow had originally worn to the 1996 premiere of Emma. Martin paired the archival dress with similarly pared-back styling, giving the vintage piece a fresh spin.
So while the latest white sundress may not have come directly from Paltrow's wardrobe, the styling feels like another affectionate nod to her mother's fashion legacy.
From 1990s Calvin Klein to 2000s Minimalism
What makes Martin's latest outfit particularly interesting is that she is not simply recreating one of Paltrow's famous looks. Instead, she appears to be embracing the wider fashion language associated with her mother.
Paltrow became known for a sophisticated form of minimalism during the 1990s and early 2000s, favouring clean silhouettes, simple accessories and understated glamour. Martin has increasingly incorporated those same elements into her own wardrobe while adding a distinctly modern touch.
Her previous appearances have included another white mini dress, a fringe skirt with tousled hair and the vintage Calvin Klein look worn for the Marty Supreme premiere.
The effect is less 'copying Mum' and more bringing Gwyneth's old-school style into a new generation.
Apple Is Making the Look Her Own
Martin's fashion credentials have also grown considerably in recent years. She has worked with major fashion names, including appearing in campaigns for GapStudio and Self-Portrait, as well as wearing a custom Valentino gown for Le Bal des Débutantes in Paris.
Her growing fashion profile means her connection to Paltrow's wardrobe is becoming part of her style identity, not simply a novelty.
Her latest choice is especially fitting. The white sundress is the sort of uncomplicated summer piece that feels timeless, yet the loose silhouette, beachy hair and understated accessories immediately evoke Paltrow's early-2000s wardrobe.
For Martin, it seems the best way to move fashion forward may sometimes be to look back. After all, when your mum is Gwyneth Paltrow, there is a rather enviable fashion archive waiting in the wardrobe.
