Huda Beauty tried to have a laugh about the internet's favourite new skincare mystery: why do so many eye-patch tubs suddenly look the same? The trouble is, the brand chose to make the joke with AI, and the comments section had thoughts.
It started when eagle-eyed shoppers noticed that Fenty Skin, Glow Recipe, Huda Beauty and Vitamasques all sell eye-patch products in near-identical grinder-style tubs. Huda addressed the chatter by joking that they've most likely come from the same manufacturer, while insisting the formulas inside are nothing alike.
Nobody has confirmed which supplier Huda is referring to, or whether it's the same one across all brands, and none of the statements so far prove that the products themselves come from a shared manufacturer.
Huda Beauty Joins in on Fenty's Viral Spider-Man Meme
Fenty Skin got there first, and did it well. A cartoon riff on the 'Spider-Man pointing' meme showed four lookalike eye-patch tubs accusing each other of copying, a joke so sharp that even Huda's supplier comment ended up folded into the coverage, as reported by ELLE.
Huda Beauty clearly wanted in on the joke too. In an Instagram reel, the brand posted a playful response teasing a 'documentary about a manufacturer', listing Glow Recipe and Fenty Skin as collaborators. The caption read, 'tap tap is this thing on', but its patrons focused on the 'AI content' label instead.
Glow Recipe has also been in on the joke, commenting 'ready for our close up'. In a separate post, the cosmetic brand stated they are just happy to be 'in good company, especially alongside brands helmed by incredible female founders'.
Why Huda Beauty's AI Video Sparked Backlash
The problem wasn't the punchline. It was how Huda chose to deliver it.
'Y'all need to stop using AI. What are you guys even doing?' wrote one commenter. Others piled in with 'Huda, we love u but please don't use AI' and a blunt 'oh not the AI...', while one summed up the general mood best: 'This would have been funny if it wasn't AI.'

Similar frustrated commenters appeared on the post, and the pattern in what's visible is hard to miss: people were happy to laugh along with the packaging joke, just not happy to watch it get outsourced to a machine.
What's Confirmed, and What Isn't
As of writing, Huda Beauty has not responded to the AI backlash. It's yet to be seen whether it quietly edits the post or just rides out the free publicity.
Huda's manufacturer remains unidentified, and it's unconfirmed if it's the same as those used by other brands. Sharing a packaging supplier doesn't prove brands share formulas, and no evidence suggests they do.
For now, what's clear is that three of the industry's biggest names walked into the exact same packaging mix-up, and Huda's take shows they're not too precious to laugh about it either. Being lumped in with Fenty and Glow Recipe over shared packaging isn't exactly a bad crowd to end up in, given the calibre of the founders behind them.
The content label was Huda Beauty's own doing though, and that's the part its audience isn't ready to laugh off just yet.
