Former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau has gone full cheerleader for Katy Perry, unexpectedly joining the pop star's silly hopping trend to promote her latest single, 'Watch It Burn'.

Perry shared the playful video on TikTok and Instagram this week, showing Trudeau and others jumping enthusiastically as the track played. The 'Teenage Dream' singer captioned it: 'Ancient texts say that if you hop to this song you will get 1,000 years of good luck.' The playful appearance follows a series of public moments in which Trudeau has backed the Grammy-nominated singer's music, performances and concert film.

Trudeau Joins the 'Watch It Burn' Hype

The clip follows the format Perry has been using throughout the promotional campaign for 'Watch It Burn'. Her recent social media videos have shown the singer, members of her team and friends hopping in time with the song, with captions including 'HOP AT YOUR OWN RISK' and location-specific posts from her European festival appearances. Perry's official Instagram account currently describes 'Watch It Burn' as 'out now'.

Trudeau's appearance was initially easy to miss, as the 54-year-old blended into the group before jumping with a grin. Once the clip was reposted on X, however, viewers quickly began doing double takes over the sight of the former political leader taking part in Perry's deliberately unserious music promotion.

'He's so cute', one fan commented, while another called Trudeau 'a supportive legend'. Others wrote, 'LMAOOO JUSTINNN WHAT ARE YOU DOINGGG' and 'How did I not notice Justin at first?' One viewer added: 'Omggggg! I just noticed Justin. This is adorable.'

Fans Draw Comparisons With Orlando Bloom

The reaction gained another layer because 'Watch It Burn' has been widely rumoured among fans to address Perry's former fiancé, The Lord of the Rings actor Orlando Bloom. Perry has not confirmed that the song is specifically about Bloom, but she has said it grew from a difficult year that included the end of their nine-year relationship and engagement.

Reposting the hopping video on X, one Perry fan wrote: 'He would've never done a silly fun video like this with Katy btw', before adding: 'She got what she deserved.' The remark framed Trudeau's willingness to join the light-hearted campaign in contrast to Perry's previous relationship, helping explain why his brief cameo resonated beyond its comedic value.

Perry released 'Watch It Burn' on 26 June after teasing the track with fiery visuals of herself wielding a baseball bat. Speaking on Justin Tranter's Unfamous podcast, she said she chose to feel her pain and anger rather than fall into a 'victim mentality', describing the song as both an acknowledgement of what she experienced and an attempt to share it openly.

Trudeau Continues His Supportive Boyfriend Streak

The TikTok appearance is not Trudeau's first public show of support for Perry's latest career chapter. In June, he attended the United States' opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Perry performed during the pre-game programme, rather than watching Canada's opening fixture in Toronto.

Addressing the decision on X, Trudeau joked: 'Sometimes supportive boyfriend duties call. But you know who I'm rooting for to take the Cup.' The message openly embraced the supportive-boyfriend label while reaffirming his backing for the Canadian team.

Trudeau also accompanied Perry to the Tribeca Festival premiere of her concert film, Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour – Live From Paris, on 8 June. During a discussion at the event, Perry said she was 'very in love' and described her relationship as an anchoring presence after a turbulent period.

The pair first sparked dating reports in July 2025 and confirmed their romance through photographs shared from Japan that December. Trudeau's latest cameo now places him directly inside Perry's promotional world, with the former prime minister swapping political composure for a few seconds of chaotic hopping as fans celebrated his willingness to play along.
