Kendall Jenner in Armani
Kendall Jenner makes her Venice Film Festival debut in a vintage Giorgio Armani @kendalljenner/Instagram

Kendall Jenner walked the Venice Film Festival red carpet in a beautiful vintage Armani gown, and the internet immediately noticed something unusual: the dress was not see-through.

After years of naked dresses, sheer panels, strategically placed micro fabric, and red-carpet looks occasionally possibly requiring an NSFW label, Jenner arrived at the Wild Horse Nine premiere on 3 September wearing what can only be described as—actual clothes.

One Reddit user appeared equally stunned, writing: 'Shocked that the dress isn't see-through.'

The uncharacteristically demure and sophisticated gown may have pleasantly surprised viewers, but Jenner's presence at the film festival prompted a considerably less enthusiastic reaction: haven't people seen enough of the Kardashian-Jenner family already?

Kendall Jenner Goes Vintage Armani in Venice

For her Venice Film Festival debut, Jenner reached further into the fashion archives than expected and came out looking like a stunning '90s muse.

The 30-year-old supermodel wore a shimmering Giorgio Armani slip dress from the designer's Autumn/Winter 1995 collection, featuring floral beading over a sequinned base.

There's even a neat coincidence behind the vintage choice: the collection debuted during the same year and season Jenner was born. Now that's a birthday suit that's largely safe from wardrobe malfunctions.

She completed the look with Briony Raymond diamond earrings and Aquazzura heels, while her hair received another dose of '90s nostalgia courtesy of a zig-zag parting.

Despite the internet's surprise at seeing Jenner in something relatively modest, the gown itself received plenty of praise.

'I like the gown but I don't understand why she's there lol,' one Reddit user wrote, perfectly summarising the prevailing mood.

Another admitted: 'I think she looks great here (even if she doesn't have a reason to be at an international film fest).'

A third was even more reluctant to surrender the compliment: 'darn it she looks fantastic'.

Fans Ask Why Kendall Jenner Is at a Film Festival

So, about that other half of the reaction.

'I dont get why this family is always present at film, art and fashion events. what are they doing there?' one commenter asked.

'I don't get why this family is relevant at all,' another replied.

And then came perhaps the most concise diagnosis of Kardashian-Jenner fatigue: 'Are we not bored with the Kardashians yet? 🥴'

Others wondered why Jenner, primarily known as a model and reality television personality, was walking a major film-festival red carpet at all. There is, however, a less mysterious answer than some of the comments suggest.

Jenner is an Emporio Armani Global Fragrance Ambassador, while Armani Beauty is one of the Venice Film Festival's principal sponsors. Her vintage Armani gown therefore wasn't simply a retro red-carpet fashion choice. Jenner was attending as part of the luxury house's presence at the festival.

One Redditor who apparently did the homework for everybody else eventually explained exactly that, pointing out the Armani connection.

Has Kardashian-Jenner Fatigue Set In?

Jenner's Venice reception creates a peculiar celebrity paradox.

Her dress was praised. Her beauty look received attention. Her '90s-inspired zig-zag part even had Reddit reminiscing about the hairstyle. Yet plenty of the conversation still boiled down to one question: why are the Kardashian-Jenners everywhere?

The family's ability to remain embedded in fashion, beauty, television, and celebrity culture is, of course, precisely why brands continue inviting them. Even people complaining that they're tired of seeing the family are, technically, still talking about them.

Ironically, Kendall Jenner did manage to surprise the internet in Venice without resorting to shock dressing. Anyone familiar with the near-collective skin-baring fashion choices of the Kardashian-Jenners would likely know that seeing them fully clothed is possibly their version of shock dressing.

After years of viewers seeing practically every conceivable version of Kardashian-Jenner glamour, apparently the most unexpected reveal left is a fully lined dress. At this rate, if the internet wants to see anything they haven't already shown them, someone may have to post an X-ray.

On another note, amid the internet's combined boredom and shock, it was evidently refreshing to see Jenner wearing a dress that left more to the imagination.
