Kristen Stewart has once again looked at the traditional dress code and decided that high heels are optional.
Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote her new film The Wrong Girls, Stewart arrived in a jaw-dropping black leather dress with a dramatically plunging neckline, delicate spaghetti straps, and enough polish to suggest classic late-night glamour.
Then came the feet, which most would expect to be clad in sky-high stilettos or any other form of high-fashion footwear that don't feel as good as they look. However, the actress challenged societal norms by reviving the rebellious dress-and-sneakers combo. Wearing black-and-green Adidas sneakers, Stewart delivered edgy hybrid fashion. Making an even stronger point for comfy footwear, she paired the ergonomic shoe choice with opaque black socks.
Because apparently Kristen Stewart's long-running war against uncomfortable footwear is nowhere near a ceasefire.
Leather, Chains, and Absolutely No Foot Pain
The dress itself brought plenty of attitude before the sneakers even entered the conversation.
Cut from glossy black leather, the ankle-skimming number featured a deep V-neckline held up by barely-there straps, giving the aesthetic a minimalist silhouette with considerably less minimalist energy. A chunky silver chain necklace sat at her collarbone, while Stewart's short, tousled hair kept everything characteristically laidback.
Then, peeking beneath the hem, were those notoriously comfortable black Adidas trainers with vivid green stripes, and a pair of black socks.
The actress has spent years dismantling the assumption that a glamorous dress requires an equally glamorous heel, famously swapping stilettos for trainers, loafers, and even bare feet on red carpets.
Her signature demeanour toward footwear also serves as a playful recall to her Twilight saga character, Bella Swan, who is famously socially allergic to wearing high heels. Any fan would have her prom Converse All Stars burned into their memory alongside her plea to walk down the aisle barefoot (much to Alice Cullen's dismay, might we add).
Kristen Stewart's Sneaker Rebellion Continues
Stewart's relationship with heels has practically developed its own IMDb page.
At the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, she famously removed her Christian Louboutin stilettos on the red carpet and continued barefoot. The power move was seen as a form of protest against the festival's reported expectations around women wearing heels.
Since then, tailoring with trainers, gowns with flats, and generally refusing to sacrifice functioning toes for fashion have become familiar Stewart territory.
Her latest 'Fallon' outfit simply reminds us that the stylishly comfortable rebellion continues.

The Wrong Girls Are Coming
The fashion moment arrived as Stewart promoted The Wrong Girls, an upcoming absurdist stoner crime comedy written and directed by Dylan Meyer.
Stewart stars opposite Alia Shawkat as Frankie and Molly, two codependent best friends whose already directionless existence becomes considerably stranger after an experimental drug lands in their possession.
One accidental dose later, telepathic and psychic abilities enter the equation, along with a case of mistaken identity and some extremely interested people who would quite like their drugs back.
The film also features LaKeith Stanfield, Seth Rogen, Kumail Nanjiani, Kate McKinnon, Tony Hale and Geena Davis, and is set to arrive in cinemas on 14 August.
Kristen Stewart Bought a 100-Year-Old Cinema
Stewart also dropped a considerably bigger piece of movie news during her chat with Jimmy Fallon: she bought a century-old cinema.
The actress described the purchase as a somewhat 'desperate' and 'foolhardy' decision, driven partly by the horrifying possibility that the historic venue could eventually become something entirely different.
'Imagine if this thing became like an Urban Outfitters or something,' she said. 'I would be so sad.'
For Stewart, preserving the cinema also means preserving the layers of memories collected inside it, from first dates to generations of people simply sitting together in the dark watching movies.
She even joked about the decades of old cinema debris lurking within the building.
