Marvel may have released a brand-new look at Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but one mystery remains firmly intact: where exactly is Sadie Sink?
The Stranger Things star was nowhere to be seen in the latest trailer, at least not in the traditional sense. Her face never appears on screen, her character is never identified by name, and Marvel continues to keep her role under wraps. Whether this is a clever marketing strategy or vital to the film's plot, the internet is calling Sink's name louder than ever, which means it's definitely effective.
Despite her apparent absence, many viewers are convinced that rather than being missing from the film trailer, the actress was merely hiding in plain sight. Now, before you panic and get your eyes examined, don't worry; no one actually spotted her face. What people did spot, however, is a masked villain who has yet to be named. While that might be a grey area, it did not stop fans from colouring it in with their speculations. Is the mystery villain portrayed by Sink?
From telepathic powers to a mysterious voice speaking through other characters, viewers quickly began connecting the dots to one name that has dominated rumours for months: Jean Grey.
Has Sadie Sink Stepped Into the Shoes of Jean Grey?
Since Sink joined the cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, fans have proposed nearly every major red-haired (or even blonde) Marvel character imaginable. Theories have ranged from Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane Watson variants to entirely original characters created for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
However, Jean Grey of X-Men is the one rumour that fans have practically been willing into existence that it has thinned the line between fiction and fact.

The latest trailer only intensified that speculation. Throughout the footage, Spider-Man (Tom Holland) appears to be dealing with an unseen adversary capable of manipulating minds and seemingly speaking through other people. At one point, a mysterious voice tells him, 'You're the only person I can't jump into', suggesting a telepathic ability unlike anything previously seen in the MCU's Spider-Man films.
While the actress' face does not get screen time in the trailer, the story seems to revolve around the actions of a force that is invisible yet strongly tangible.
In other words, Sink may not actually be missing from the trailer at all. What if she, technically, is the entire trailer?
The powers enveloping multiple frames happen to bear a striking resemblance to Jean Grey's abilities in the Marvel Comics. Combined with longstanding rumours surrounding Sink's casting, many believe Marvel may have subtly introduced one of the X-Men's most iconic leading ladies into the Spider-verse.
Hide and Seek Sadie Sink
Since the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer was released, Marvelites have launched into a full-scale scavenger hunt for Sadie Sink in every frame. Whether she plays the role of Jean Grey or not remains a mystery until the film releases in UK cinemas on 29 July and US cinemas on 31 July, 2026.
True to their superhero code of conduct, Marvel is a master at gatekeeping spoilers and has yet to confirm anything. Until then, superhero fans are left doing what they do best: overanalysing every frame for clues.
