Sam Altman's sister, Ann Altman, is pushing back against a court-ordered medical examination linked to her sexual abuse lawsuit against the OpenAI boss. The latest disagreement centres on what the examination will cover, with Ann arguing that the proposed assessment is far broader than the mental health issues she has placed before the court.

The dispute comes as the case continues to move through the US legal system. The reported examination is scheduled for 26 August, but Ann's lawyers are asking the court to reconsider its scope.

On the other hand, Sam has denied his sister's allegations, while arguing that her claimed psychological injuries are relevant to the case.

Ann Altman Rejects Medical Exam Amid Legal Battle

Ann is not simply refusing to undergo any medical assessment, according to TMZ. Her objection is about how wide the examination could become.

Her lawyers say she agreed to an evaluation connected to her claims of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, they reportedly objected after learning that the appointed doctor planned to examine her for 'any mental disorder'.

Ann's legal team argues that this could open the door to questions about areas of her mental health history that have little to do with the allegations against her brother. They also say the details about the examination were provided only days before it was scheduled.

Sam's side takes a different view. Because Ann says the alleged abuse caused significant psychological harm, his lawyers argue that her mental health is directly relevant to the case. That has turned the medical examination itself into a legal battle.

Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Sam Altman

Ann filed a lawsuit against Sam in January 2025, accusing him of sexually abusing her when they were children.

According to court filings reported by Reuters, Ann alleges that the abuse began in 1997, when she was three years old and Sam was 12. She claims the alleged abuse continued for years and included rape and other forms of sexual abuse. She also alleges that some incidents occurred after Sam became an adult.

Ann says the alleged abuse left her with serious psychological consequences, including PTSD and emotional distress. Her case therefore places her mental health at the heart of her allegations.

Sam has repeatedly denied the accusations. Following the lawsuit, he and other members of his family described the allegations as untrue. Sam has also taken legal action against Ann, filing a defamation lawsuit over statements she has made about him.

The legal proceedings have already taken several turns. In March 2026, a federal judge ruled that Ann's standalone sexual assault and sexual battery claims had expired in 2008, but said she could pursue her case under Missouri's child sexual abuse statute. Ann subsequently filed an amended complaint.
