BLACKPINK's Jennie faces online 'copycat' claims over her Fallen Angel poster @jennierubyjane/Instagram

BLACKPINK's Jennie is facing fresh 'copycat' claims after a new Fallen Angel poster was compared with the artwork for Cherie Amour's 2022 album Spiritual Ascension. The debate spread online after fans noticed similar use of colour, framing and a floating figure, but there is no proof that Jennie or her team copied the band's artwork.

The controversy comes just days before Jennie's new digital EP is set to arrive. Her agency, OA Entertainment, has confirmed that Fallen Angel will be released on 28 August and will include three songs.

Fallen Angel Poster Sparks Online Debate

Jennie revealed new promotional material for Fallen Angel as the release date moved closer. The poster quickly drew attention online, with some users saying parts of the image reminded them of Cherie Amour's Spiritual Ascension artwork.

The main comparison focuses on a person being lifted into the air against a dreamy, colourful background. Cherie Amour's official record label describes its album cover as showing a girl in a dress being pulled towards the sky by a white beam of light.

That detail matters because it confirms the Cherie Amour artwork exists and that the visual comparison is based on an actual album cover. However, a visual similarity alone does not prove that one artist copied another.

Cherie Amour's Spiritual Ascension Cover

Cherie Amour released Spiritual Ascension on 4 November 2022 through Equal Vision Records. The album was the Baltimore band's debut full-length record and contains 11 songs, including the title track.

Its artwork has a fantasy-like scene with mountains, mist and a figure rising above the ground. A white beam appears to pull the figure upward, creating a clear connection to spiritual or heavenly movement.

The record itself has a very different musical identity from Jennie's pop project. Equal Vision Records described Cherie Amour as a band that mixes pop-punk, hip-hop, R&B and other sounds, while Fallen Angel is part of Jennie's solo pop career.

Ariana Grande Comparison

Cherie Amour is not the only name being brought into the discussion. Online users have also compared Jennie's new visuals with Ariana Grande's 'Supernatural', with some pointing to similarities in the colour tone, framing and the way the central figure is shown.

The Ariana comparison has broadened the debate because users are now looking at several past pop visuals alongside Jennie's new campaign. Some social media posts have gone as far as calling Jennie a 'copycat', but those comments remain opinions from online users rather than proven findings.

Jennie's Fallen Angel Release

The poster controversy arrives as Jennie prepares to release Fallen Angel. OA Entertainment says the digital EP will be released worldwide on 28 August at 1 pm KST, with 'FALLEN ANGEL', 'HEAVEN' and 'Less than a Lover' on the track list.

The project is being presented as a personal release from Jennie. Her agency said the EP comes from a 'very personal place' and reflects what it called her 'truest self-expression'.

There is also a physical version with six tracks, including three songs that are exclusive to the physical release. OA Entertainment confirmed 'sweettooth', 'lockitdown' and 'Face' alongside the three digital EP songs.

Copycat Claims Remain Unproven

The similarities are enough to explain why the poster became a talking point online. Both the Jennie campaign and Spiritual Ascension use a dreamy image of a figure being lifted or placed above the ground, which has led some viewers to question the visual idea.

Still, it would be inaccurate to report the accusations as confirmed plagiarism. No verified statement from Cherie Amour, Equal Vision Records, Jennie or OA Entertainment says Jennie's team copied the 2022 album artwork.

For now, the story is best described as a social media debate over similar visual ideas. Jennie's Fallen Angel will be released on 28 August, and attention is likely to shift from the poster to the music and the full visual campaign once the EP arrives.
