A Brazilian murder suspect allegedly claimed he had killed around 80 people after police caught him disguised as a woman while carrying a two-year-old child. Jorlan Alves da Silva, also identified in reports as Jorlan Lopes da Silva, was arrested in Mulungu, Paraíba, on 13 September after an operation lasting about 48 hours.
The extraordinary arrest came as investigators were already examining his alleged involvement in a string of killings in northeastern Brazil. While the suspect's claim of 80 victims remains unverified, police say they have linked him to 16 homicide investigations in roughly three months, making the case far more serious than the dramatic disguise alone suggests.
Police Found Him in a Dress and Wig
According to investigators, Silva was attempting to evade police when officers found him wearing a dress, wig, women's sandals, sunglasses and painted nails. He was also carrying a toddler who authorities said was not related to him, although the circumstances surrounding the child's presence remain under investigation.
Police reportedly identified him after noticing a tattoo, before removing the wig and revealing his short hair. The arrest followed an earlier operation in which officers stopped a vehicle connected to Silva and other alleged associates, but he managed to escape before being captured during the subsequent search.
The Investigation Currently Links Him to 16 Deaths
The 80-murder figure comes from Silva himself and has not been confirmed by investigators. Police are currently examining 16 killings that they say have evidence connecting him to the cases, with the incidents concentrated in the Vale do Mamanguape region over approximately three months.
Investigators are also reviewing unsolved homicide files to determine whether any further evidence connects Silva to the larger number he allegedly claimed. That distinction is important because an alleged confession is not, by itself, confirmation that every claimed killing occurred or that the suspect was responsible for each one.
He Allegedly Claimed His First Killing Was at 13
During questioning, Silva reportedly told investigators that he had killed around 80 people over the course of his life and claimed his first killing happened when he was 13. One investigation involves the deaths of two businessmen in Rio Tinto on 1 August, with police saying Silva provided information that led them towards a burial site. Investigators are continuing to establish which alleged crimes can be supported by physical evidence, witness information and other findings.

Perhaps the strangest detail from the arrest was the presence of the young child, who was reportedly around two years old and was not a relative of Silva. What is established is that Silva was found carrying the toddler while dressed in women's clothing during an attempt to escape the police operation.

Parker Crane, known as the Bride in Black, is revealed in Insidious: Chapter 2 to have been a male serial killer who disguised himself as a woman, making the fictional character an obvious point of comparison for viewers reacting to the Brazilian arrest.

For now, the most striking number in the case remains an allegation made by Silva rather than an established death toll. Police have evidence connecting him to 16 homicide investigations and are reviewing additional unsolved cases to determine whether his wider claim can be substantiated.
