A British TikTok influencer who says she was trying to escape an abusive situation in Dubai is now at the centre of a murder case that could carry the ultimate punishment - death by firing squad. Brooke George, 23, from Gravesend, Kent, has been charged with murdering a British man after allegedly stabbing him with a kitchen knife.
However, George insists she acted in self defence after being attacked, while her family and campaign group Detained in Dubai argue she should be treated as a possible victim of domestic violence as the investigation continues.
The Murder Charge Against Brooke George
George was arrested during the early hours of 22 June after the fatal incident. Authorities later detained her at Dubai International Airport as she attempted to board a flight back to the UK.
According to campaign group Detained in Dubai, George and the deceased had met through Facebook before their relationship eventually led her to travel to the United Arab Emirates.
She is accused of fatally stabbing the man with a kitchen knife. If convicted under UAE law, she could face the death penalty by firing squad. George has denied deliberately killing him and maintains that she acted only after being violently assaulted.

Brooke's Family Says She Was Trying To Escape
George's relatives believe she had already decided to leave Dubai before the fatal confrontation. They say she contacted them while in a state of panic after allegedly being physically assaulted. According to her family, she booked a flight home and returned to the apartment only to collect her passport before she was allegedly attacked again.
Her mother, Thereza George, recalled speaking to her daughter shortly after the incident. 'I have never seen my daughter so frightened in my life,' she said. She added that George was crying uncontrollably and had one eye that was badly swollen and beginning to close. Her mother also said she believed her daughter was desperately trying to get away from whatever had happened in Dubai.
Abuse Claims Come Into Focus
Radha Stirling, chief executive of Detained in Dubai, said George reached for a knife only after being attacked and should be treated as a domestic violence survivor while authorities establish the full circumstances.
Stirling also claimed multiple witnesses saw visible injuries on George immediately after the incident. She said investigators should examine whether George was herself the victim of serious violence before deciding how the case should proceed.
Concerns About Possible Exploitation
According to Detained in Dubai, those close to her became increasingly worried that she may have been lured there under false pretences. Campaigners pointed to what they described as a sudden change in her behaviour, a one way ticket, a professional bikini photoshoot arranged during her first visit, allegations that her passport had been withheld, and messages in which George reportedly told friends that 'things weren't right'.
Stirling also alleged that George had reported seeing disturbing videos on the man's computer before the fatal incident. The organisation has urged UAE authorities to preserve mobile phones, computers and digital accounts belonging to the deceased to determine whether there is evidence of exploitation involving George or other possible victims.
Campaigners Want Her Released On Bail
Detained in Dubai is now calling for George's release while the investigation continues. The group argues she should receive medical treatment, legal representation and immediate assistance from British consular officials.
It also says authorities must fully investigate her allegations of abuse instead of treating her only as a murder suspect. Campaigners believe examining the evidence surrounding the alleged assault will be essential before any conclusions are reached.
The Case Draws Global Attention
George's case has attracted significant attention in both Britain and the UAE because it combines allegations of domestic violence, claims of exploitation and one of the most serious criminal charges possible.
The 23-year-old remains in custody at Bur Dubai jail while investigators continue gathering evidence. Whether the courts ultimately accept her claim of self defence could prove crucial in determining the outcome of a case that has already left her family fearing for her future.
