Candace Cameron Bure has broken down in tears while reflecting on her marriage to former professional ice hockey player Valeri Bure during Special Forces: World's Toughest Test. The Full House actress admitted that she has become accustomed to following instructions rather than taking the lead, prompting her to question her confidence and independence.
In a preview of the Thursday, 15 October episode of the Fox reality competition, Cameron Bure, 50, described herself as a 'beta' in a relationship with an 'alpha' husband. Her emotional confession focused on how their established dynamic has shaped her self-perception, rather than announcing that their marriage is in trouble.
'It just was a disappointment,' Cameron Bure said while discussing her performance during a challenge. She explained that she had recognised a pattern in her behaviour, admitting she was good at taking direction but struggled to take a leadership role.
'I've been taking direction my whole life just being a kid actor,' she continued. The actress began working in entertainment at a young age before meeting Valeri, who was 20 when they met and later became a professional athlete.
Husband Valeri 'Does Everything' for Her
Cameron Bure's description of her marriage attracted attention because she openly acknowledged how comfortable she had become with her husband's leadership. 'I live with an alpha and I am a beta,' she said, wiping away tears. 'He does everything for me because he's a good leader.'
The actress added that the experience made her realise she didn't lead in her everyday life. She also admitted she didn't feel confident using her own voice, despite believing she could become more assertive.
'I do have a spirit in me, and so at this age, I really wanted to see if I could push it. I want to step up,' she said.
Joining Special Forces: World's Toughest Test
Cameron Bure's remarks showed a personal challenge that extended beyond the competition. Rather than presenting her husband's leadership as a source of conflict, Cameron Bure described it as a familiar part of their relationship that had encouraged her to reflect on her own habits.
The programme's demanding environment appeared to provide an opportunity for the actress to confront those patterns. Special Forces: World's Toughest Test places celebrity contestants through physically and mentally challenging exercises designed to test their resilience, decision-making and ability to cope under pressure.
For the actress, the experience appears to have exposed an area of personal development she wanted to address. She needs to learn to trust her judgment and take charge when circumstances require it.

Long-time Marriage
Cameron Bure and Valeri married in June 1996 after meeting through her Full House co-star Dave Coulier, who introduced them at a charity hockey game in 1994. Valeri, a former National Hockey League player who represented Russia internationally, retired from professional hockey in 2005.
The couple share three children: Natasha, Lev and Maksim. Over the years, Cameron Bure has spoken publicly about the importance of faith, family and commitment in their relationship. Her latest comments arrive after she acknowledged that the couple had experienced a serious period of marital difficulty.
In July 2025, the actress revealed that she and Valeri endured a particularly difficult period in 2020, when they weren't sure their marriage would survive. She discussed the experience on her podcast, explaining that their children helped them reconsider their relationship and work towards reconciliation.
Their son Lev played a significant role in that turning point, delivering what Cameron Bure described as a lengthy talk about marriage and the importance of extending grace to one another. She subsequently credited the conversation with helping the couple reassess their relationship.
