Daisy Edgar-Jones brought a contemporary fashion look to the Sydney press tour for Sense and Sensibility, wearing an Alaïa Fall 2026 ensemble for a photocall promoting the new Jane Austen adaptation.

The actress appeared at Wendy Whiteley's Secret Garden in Sydney on 30 September alongside co-star Esmé Creed-Miles, ahead of the film's Australian premiere. Edgar-Jones plays Elinor Dashwood in the new adaptation, while Creed-Miles portrays her younger sister, Marianne.

French Fashion

For the Sydney appearance, Edgar-Jones wore an ivory Alaïa look from the French fashion house's Fall 2026 ready-to-wear collection. The outfit consisted of a fitted corset-style wool-knit jumper with long sleeves and a high neckline, paired with an asymmetrical, tiered ruffle skirt.

She completed the outfit with pointed Alaïa mesh pumps, keeping the footwear in the same pale colour family as the rest of the ensemble. Fashion coverage identified the outfit as part of Alaïa's Fall 2026 collection.

The look was photographed against the greenery and harbour views of Wendy Whiteley's Secret Garden, where the cast attended the Sydney photocall. The setting provided the backdrop for the beginning of the Australian publicity campaign for the film.

Edgar-Jones' choice of a recent runway look also marks a change from some of the more overtly period-inspired outfits she has worn during the film's international press tour.

Regency Costume

According to British Vogue, stylist Dani Michelle worked with Edgar-Jones on a wardrobe for the Sense and Sensibility campaign that incorporates elements associated with the late 18th-century setting of Austen's novel, including corsetry, lace, puffed fabrics, florals and brocade. The actress has also worn designs from Louis Vuitton, Prada, Chanel, Alexander McQueen, Schiaparelli and Armani Privé during the promotional campaign.

The Alaïa ensemble does not reproduce a Regency-era costume. Instead, its corset-inspired construction provides a subtle connection to the period references that have appeared elsewhere in Edgar-Jones' promotional wardrobe.

The Sydney outfit comes shortly after the actress wore other fashion looks linked to the film's publicity appearances. Her previous outfits included two Vivienne Westwood looks, according to fashion coverage, while her Berlin premiere appearance featured an Armani Privé couture gown from the Spring/Summer 2005 collection.

The Alaïa look itself is from the label's Fall 2026 ready-to-wear collection. The collection has been documented by Vogue, confirming its place within Alaïa's Fall 2026 runway offering.

Edgar-Jones' Sydney appearance is part of the international promotion for Sense and Sensibility, directed by Georgia Oakley and based on Austen's 1811 novel.

'Sense and Sensibility'

The new film follows Elinor and Marianne Dashwood after their family is forced to leave its estate following the death of their father. The sisters and their widowed mother move to a more modest home, where their relationships and differing approaches to love become central to the story.

The cast also includes Caitríona Balfe as Mrs Dashwood, George MacKay as Edward Ferrars, Frank Dillane as John Willoughby, Herbert Nordrum as Colonel Brandon, Fiona Shaw as Mrs Jennings and Bodhi Rae Breathnach as Margaret Dashwood.

The Australian campaign began in Sydney after Edgar-Jones and Creed-Miles travelled through several international stops for the film. Universal Pictures confirmed that the Australian release is scheduled for 15 October 2026. The film is also scheduled for a US theatrical release on 16 October.
