Doja Cat appeared to have one very simple question when country star Ella Langley's name came up: who? The rapper looked visibly confused during a recent interview after being asked about Langley, even though the 27-year-old singer is currently sitting at the top of one of the biggest music charts in the world.

The awkward exchange came as Langley's breakout hit 'Choosin' Texas' reached its 19th week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, tying the record for the longest reign by a non-holiday song. That puts Langley in the same elite company as Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus' 'Old Town Road' and Shaboozey's 'A Bar Song (Tipsy)'.

So while 'Choosin' Texas' has become a genuine chart phenomenon, Doja, 30, appeared to have completely missed the memo.

Doja Cat's Very Confused Reaction

The moment happened during Doja's appearance on Caleb Pressley's Sundae Conversation on Sunday, 23 August.

Pressley, 33, first joked with the rapper before unexpectedly steering the conversation towards Langley.

'Did you think I was talkin about Ella Langley?' he asked.

He then followed up with another question: 'Are you an Ella's Fella?'

Doja immediately appeared confused.

'I don't know what that is,' she replied.

Pressley seemed surprised and asked whether she liked Langley. Doja again said she didn't know who he meant.

'I don't know what that is. Ella Langley? Ella Langley,' she said.

The exchange has since attracted attention precisely because Langley is not an obscure newcomer. Her latest chart achievement has placed her among some of the biggest names in recent Billboard history.

That said, the exchange alone doesn't indicate that Doja was deliberately dismissing Langley. She may simply have been unfamiliar with the country singer or may have been playing along with Pressley's joke.

Ella Langley Is Making Billboard History

The timing of Doja's apparent confusion could hardly be more ironic.

'Choosin' Texas' has now spent 19 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it one of the longest-running chart-toppers ever recorded among non-holiday songs.

The song has matched the 19-week runs achieved by 'Old Town Road' and 'A Bar Song (Tipsy)'. Billboard's all-time Hot 100 record remains Mariah Carey's festive classic 'All I Want for Christmas', which has accumulated 22 weeks at No. 1.

Importantly, the Hot 100 is an all-genre chart, rather than a country-only ranking. That makes Langley's achievement particularly significant: 'Choosin' Texas' is not merely dominating country radio; it is competing with the biggest pop, hip-hop and R&B releases in America.

The Song Behind the Phenomenon

'Choosin' Texas' was released in 2025 and became the lead single from Langley's second studio album, Dandelion.

The track helped propel Langley from rising country performer to genuine mainstream star, eventually becoming her first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1. It has also established her as one of the defining country artists of 2026.

The success has been remarkable given the increasingly fragmented nature of music consumption. A song can dominate one genre or platform without becoming universally recognisable, which may explain how Langley can be breaking Billboard records while still being unfamiliar to another major recording artist.

Langley Is Adjusting to the Spotlight

Langley has previously spoken about the strange experience of moving from aspiring artist to household name.

In a June interview with PEOPLE, she said she was still 'finding my footing' in a new life where so many people were paying attention to what she was doing.

'This is the goal, the whole time, for people to be listening to the music,' she said. 'But now they're also paying attention to the human version of me, which is interesting.'

She also described Dandelion as an authentic record, saying every song had a purpose and a story.

That growing profile makes the Doja Cat moment all the more entertaining. Langley may be having one of the biggest chart runs of her career, but recognition can still vary dramatically between musical worlds.

Doja and Langley's Very Different Worlds

Doja Cat and Ella Langley occupy markedly different corners of the music industry.

Doja has built a career around pop, hip-hop and genre-blurring releases, while Langley has emerged from the modern country scene. Their audiences may overlap, but the viral exchange shows that even major artists can exist in very different musical bubbles.

For Langley, however, the numbers speak loudly.

'Choosin' Texas' is now tied for the longest non-holiday run at No. 1 in Billboard Hot 100 history.

So, Ella who? For Doja Cat, apparently, the answer is still: 'I don't know.'
