The clip is from an episode of Afualo's podcast, The Comment Section, originally posted on 2 April 2025, and reshared on 24 July. In the episode, Fightmaster argues that cisgender women often associate their womanhood with their social roles or their vulnerability to male violence. In contrast, trans women describe their identity as 'this feeling I've always had, this truth I've always known'.
Fightmaster goes further, saying they want cis women to stop letting men act as 'a barrier to their identity'. Afualo agreed throughout, later folding in her past defence of Dylan Mulvaney's 2024 track 'Days of Girlhood', which she has championed before as proof that trans joy deserves the same space as trans struggle.

The detail about Fightmaster is more important than many reposts suggest. Fightmaster was assigned female at birth and has gone through menstruation. This fact challenges one main criticism aimed at Afualo—that she allowed a man to overshadow women's biological experiences.
However, it does not address another criticism: comparing the beauty of different relationships to womanhood uses hierarchical language, which may turn off some listeners.

What Did Drew Afualo Say About Trans Womanhood?
Afualo asserts that the outrage surrounding her comments is manufactured and stems from an old clip rather than a genuine response to anything new she has said.
In a TikTok video posted on 10 August, she argued that the controversy was reignited only after 'an alt-right MAGA-loving creator' repackaged the clip to promote what she described as trans-exlusionary radical feminist (TERF) rhetoric. She emphasised that reducing womanhood to 'your uterus and what it does' is actually a tool of patriarchy rather than a defence against it.
