Dua Lipa really did marry actor Callum Turner in Sicily in June 2026, but the 'wedding photographs' seen by millions online were not evidence of what happened inside the ceremony. The viral pictures, which showed the 'Levitating' singer eating spaghetti, dancing through Palermo and celebrating among glamorous guests, were generated using artificial intelligence by Italian digital artist Rick Dick.
The images began spreading while official access to the couple's Palermo celebrations remained limited, allowing fiction to fill the visual gap. Although Rick Dick labelled his original Instagram post with an AI hashtag, copies circulated across X, Facebook, Instagram and Threads without the disclosure, leaving thousands of users believing they had seen photographs from Lipa and Turner's private wedding.
The Wedding Was Real, But the Pictures Were Not
The AI series appeared convincing because it mixed recognisable details with deliberately over-the-top scenes. Some images placed the Grammy and Brit Award-winning singer in bridal gowns, while others showed her and Masters of the Air actor Turner carrying a pot of spaghetti or moving through crowded Sicilian streets as though they were starring in an Italian fashion campaign.
Rick Dick, whose first name is Riccardo, has created fashion-focused digital satire since 2017 and began experimenting with AI tools in 2022. His previous work has included King Charles III dressed in Barbie pink, Jacob Elordi imagined as a Chanel mermaid and Pope Leo XIV wearing Schiaparelli couture.
The artist said the Dua Lipa images had been clearly identified as AI-generated when he first published them and were intended as a joke. 'I've always believed that a meme can sometimes say more about contemporary culture than a thousand-word article', he said while discussing his approach to fashion and celebrity imagery.
However, that context disappeared as the pictures travelled beyond his account. Reposts cropped captions, removed hashtags or presented the scenes as exclusive photographs from the wedding, showing how quickly a labelled artwork can become misinformation once separated from its original upload.
Dua Lipa's Real Wedding Created the Perfect Opening
Lipa and Turner's relationship had already generated intense online attention before the pictures appeared. The couple were first publicly linked in early 2024, and Lipa confirmed their engagement in June 2025 after months of speculation surrounding the diamond ring she had worn in photographs.
'Yeah, we're engaged. It's very exciting', the 'New Rules' singer said at the time. She described the prospect of growing older with Turner and becoming 'best friends forever' as 'a really special feeling', adding that the actor had created her customised engagement ring with help from her sister Rina and close friends.
The pair later married privately in London on 31 May 2026 before holding a larger celebration in Palermo the following weekend. Their Sicily wedding attracted guests, street closures and sustained speculation, but the couple initially released few images, making the polished AI scenes appear plausible to people following the event in real time.
Official Photographs Eventually Replaced the Fantasy
When genuine photographs from the celebrations emerged, they showed a fashionable but more grounded wedding weekend.
Lipa was photographed in Palermo wearing a feathered, backless white dress, while Turner appeared beside her in a light neutral suit during festivities in the city.
The viral AI images nevertheless continued circulating after real material became available, partly because their cinematic styling matched Lipa's public image.
The singer has built a visual identity around high-fashion campaigns, destination photographs and editorial styling, making an exaggerated Sicilian wedding fantasy look believable at a glance.
This was also not Lipa's first encounter with AI-generated celebrity imagery. Fake photographs previously appeared to place her at the 2024 Met Gala, despite the singer not attending, as synthetic red-carpet images of several stars accumulated millions of views.
The Sicily pictures ultimately documented an online version of Dua Lipa's wedding rather than the event itself. Every viral spaghetti dinner, street dance and carefully staged bridal portrait in the original AI series was fictional, even though the marriage at the centre of the story was real.
