Shakira and Dua Lipa
Dua Lipa joins Shakira for a surprise performance of 'Antología' during her Madrid residency @shakira/Instagram

Dua Lipa once sang Shakira's 'Antología' as part of her Radical Optimism tour stop in Bogotá back in 2025. As popstar fate would have it, the universe decided the only reasonable encore was adding Shakira herself.

The British-Albanian pop star unexpectedly walked onto the stage during Shakira's eighth Madrid show on Saturday, 3 October, joining the Colombian superstar for a song she had previously covered on her own. This time, however, the woman who wrote it was standing beside her.

Cue more than 50,000 people discovering they had accidentally bought tickets to pop history in the making. It marked the first time Dua Lipa and Shakira had performed together live. Judging by the immediate reaction online, fans would rather it not be the last.

Dua Lipa Finally Sings 'Antología' With Shakira

During Dua Lipa's Radical Optimism Tour stop in Bogotá in November 2025, she surprised the Colombian crowd by singing 'Antología' entirely in Spanish. Shakira seems to have noticed.

The Colombian singer celebrated Dua's rendition, noting the sweet coincidence that a woman from London had performed the song in Bogotá, where Shakira wrote it decades earlier.

Madrid eventually supplied the sequel, as Shakira introduced Dua to the crowd before the familiar opening notes began. Then the pair performed the 1995 ballad together. Dua wore a shimmering black dress, while Shakira provided a vivid contrast in fiery red.

One Duet Wasn't Going To Cut It

Social media did what social media does best after an unexpected pop pairing: immediately demand more. Clips of the performance travelled at the speed of byte, as viewers celebrated Dua's Spanish and the rather surreal sight of her finally performing 'Antología' beside its original singer.

'We need a collab ASAP!' one fan declared. Elsewhere, the reviews required far less debate. 'Two legends team up. You love to see it,' one Reddit user wrote, while another called the performance 'absolutely lovely.'

Dua's Spanish earned its own round of applause. 'Dua sing in spanish so well!' one viewer gushed, prompting another to add: 'Her accent is excellent!'

Another fan admitted they were caught off guard by just how naturally the cover translated into a duet: 'I was not expecting Dua Lipa to sound SO GOOD singing Antología!'

For now, though, fans will have to make do with 'Antología', possibly played on loop and in 4K. One surprise duet has already given them proof of concept, and apparently that was a dangerous thing to do. The Dua Lipa and Shakira wormhole of musical possibilities has been opened.

From Bogotá Cover to Madrid Duet

'Antología' first appeared on Shakira's 1995 album Pies Descalzos, long before either woman could have predicted this particular chapter in its life. Three decades later, Dua first borrowed the song for a night in Shakira's homeland. Less than a year after that, she was sharing it with Shakira herself in Madrid.

The surprise also arrived during an already starry stretch of Shakira's Madrid residency, which has welcomed several special guests. Still, Dua came carrying something most surprise performers could not: her own history with the song.

Shakira appeared equally delighted by the full-circle moment. After the show, she shared glimpses of their time together and described the night as 'a dream come true for many of us'.

Fans, naturally, have already added more chapters to the dream. A duet is wonderful. An original collaboration would be better, obviously.

The 'Training Season' icon has gone from covering 'Antología' in Bogotá to singing it beside the music legend who wrote it. If their pop anthology is getting another entry, they might need to find a venue big enough to contain the dual star power, because we have a feeling fans will be ready for another collaboration, whenever, wherever they decide to drop it.
