Jennifer Lawrence has opened up about the cosmetic procedures she has considered, revealing that she would love to undergo buccal fat removal but believes she cannot have the procedure without the change being noticed.
The Oscar-winning actress discussed ageing, beauty treatments and cosmetic procedures during a candid conversation with Vogue, published on Thursday, 3 September. Speaking during a visit to the Dior Spa Cipriani in Venice, Lawrence reflected on the pressures surrounding appearance in Hollywood and the treatments she is willing and unwilling to try.
'I would love to have a buccal fat removal,' Lawrence said. She then explained why she has not pursued it, adding: 'I can't because everybody would know, but just know that I want that.'
What Is Buccal Fat Removal?
Buccal fat removal is a cosmetic surgical procedure in which buccal fat pads are removed from the lower cheeks. The treatment is intended to create a slimmer or more defined facial appearance.
Lawrence's comments come as she speaks increasingly candidly about ageing and beauty in an industry where celebrities are frequently scrutinised for changes in their appearance. Rather than denying an interest in cosmetic treatments altogether, the actress has acknowledged that she is selective about what she is prepared to have done.
Lawrence also revealed that she uses what she described as 'baby Botox'. She explained that she does not want to have too much treatment because maintaining facial movement is particularly important to her as an actress.
'I need to have movement in my face — I get baby Botox, but I can't do a lot,' she told Vogue.
Not Wanting To Be Part of the Trend
The actress also discussed facial fat transfers, another cosmetic trend that has attracted considerable attention. Rather than saying she would never undergo the procedure, Lawrence said she was nervous about it and wanted to see how the trend develops.
'Oh, I'm really nervous about these fat transfers,' she said. 'I support other people doing them because I want to continue to watch and see what happens, but I don't know about that.'
Her comments illustrate a more nuanced attitude towards cosmetic procedures. Lawrence is not opposed to aesthetic treatments, but she appears wary of changes that could significantly alter her appearance or interfere with the facial expressions she needs for her profession.
The actress also discussed some decidedly less glamorous aspects of her beauty routine. She said she dislikes having her hair coloured and going to the nail salon, describing both experiences as boring and time-consuming.
Skin Care Habits
Lawrence has also been open about her skincare habits. During the Vogue interview, she discussed using retinol and said she had started using Desitin, a nappy-rash cream, to help soothe redness. She also spoke about protecting areas of her face affected by melasma from the sun.
At 36, Jennifer Lawrence's comments reflect the increasingly open conversation among Hollywood stars about ageing, cosmetic treatments and the expectations placed on women to maintain a particular appearance.
For now, buccal fat removal remains a procedure Lawrence says she would like to have but does not feel able to pursue because of the attention it would attract.
Her reasoning was characteristically direct: if she made such a noticeable change to her face, 'everybody would know'.
