Jenny Mollen has revealed the painfully awkward text message she sent estranged husband Jason Biggs just days after he moved out of their family home, admitting the timing was so unfortunate that it immediately made her look suspicious.
The actress and author shared the story during a candid appearance on Kelly Ripa's Let's Talk Off Camera podcast, where she recalled having to inform Biggs that she was about to undergo intimate surgery shortly after the couple ended their 18-year marriage.
For Mollen, it was one of those moments that seemed impossible to explain without sounding terrible.
'It looks so bad for me,' she admitted, laughing at the memory.
The Text That Couldn't Have Come At A Worse Time
According to Mollen, the situation unfolded just as she and Biggs were adjusting to life apart following their separation in May 2026.
'Jason was moving out on a Friday, and I didn't mean for it to line up this way,' she explained.
The problem was that she had already scheduled a vaginoplasty procedure and needed to let her former husband know what was happening. Unfortunately, the timing made the message sound far more dramatic than it actually was.
'I'm having a vagina surgery. I mean, it looks so bad for me,' she recalled telling him.
Mollen admitted she briefly considered not saying anything at all because she worried the situation would appear 'shady' and 'weird'.
'I didn't want to tell him because it sounded shady and weird,' she said. The comedian explained that she struggled to find a way to present the information without making it seem suspicious.
'I'm going under for two and a half f***ing hours. I was like, "Make this feel palatable," but it was awful.'
In an attempt to lighten the situation, she even found a silver lining.
'The one good thing I was able to tell him was, "I'm not allowed to have sex for eight weeks."'
The remark quickly became one of the most talked-about moments from the interview, highlighting the unusual sense of humour that has long defined the couple's relationship.
Why The Story Resonated With Fans
What makes the exchange particularly fascinating is that it happened immediately after the breakdown of a marriage that lasted nearly two decades.
For many couples, communication becomes strained after a separation. Yet Mollen and Biggs appear to have maintained an unusually open relationship despite deciding to go their separate ways.
The pair announced their split in May after 18 years of marriage. A spokesperson said at the time that both remained committed to co-parenting their two sons, Sid, 12, and Lazlo, eight.
Since then, neither has publicly spoken about hostility or conflict. Instead, Mollen has repeatedly emphasised that affection and friendship remain at the centre of their relationship.
'We Still Love Each Other'
Just one day before discussing the surgery text, Mollen appeared on Amanda Hirsch's Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, where she offered further insight into their post-marriage dynamic.
'We still love each other,' she said.
Rather than describing the relationship as a traditional divorce, Mollen suggested it has evolved into something different.
'It's a different type of romance. It's like your best friend.'
The actress also revealed that they remain in constant contact despite living separately.
'We still talk 18 times a day about everyone's schedule and after school and holidays,' she said. That level of communication has made the transition surprisingly complicated to define.
'People will be like, "How does it feel?" And I'm like, "I don't know, the same?"'
Mollen also admitted that returning to single life after spending almost two decades with one person has felt 'bizarre'.
From Hollywood Marriage To Modern Family
Mollen and Biggs first met while working on the comedy film My Best Friend's Girl in 2007. Their romance moved quickly. They became engaged in January 2008 before eloping later that year and renewing their vows in Napa Valley just months afterwards.
Throughout their marriage, the couple built a reputation for sharing the realities of family life with refreshing honesty, often discussing topics that many celebrity couples would avoid. That honesty appears unchanged even after their separation.
In many ways, Mollen's awkward hospital text perfectly captures the reality of their relationship today. The marriage may have ended, but the connection has not.
What began as a deeply uncomfortable message about surgery has instead become a reminder that some relationships do not fit neatly into conventional categories. Despite living apart, Mollen and Biggs remain friends, co-parents and constant fixtures in each other's lives.
And judging by Mollen's reaction, that infamous text message may go down as one of the most awkward — and memorable — conversations of their entire relationship.
