Joe Manganiello is facing online ridicule after revealing that a shaman allegedly told him someone from Sofía Vergara's past had placed a curse on him during their marriage. The actor detailed the bizarre claim in his memoir Bloodlines.

The revelation has sent social media users into a frenzy, with some poking fun at the alleged supernatural explanation. It has also renewed criticism of how Manganiello has discussed his former relationship, with some social media users accusing him of narcissism.

Shaman Allegedly Linked His Illness to Curse

Manganiello wrote in Bloodlines about receiving a telephone call from a shaman in Cuba who claimed his mysterious illness was linked to a curse. The shaman told him that he was sick and that something was wrong with his intestines.

What reportedly unsettled the actor was the caller's apparent knowledge of his condition, which Manganiello said even some of his relatives did not know about. 'There were members of my close family who didn't know any of that, let alone some random guy on the phone,' he wrote.

Manganiello also recalled looking at Vergara with a mixture of emotions after hearing the shaman's claims, describing his expression as 'equal parts fear, anger, and disbelief'. According to his account, the shaman suggested that someone from Vergara's past who was still in love with her had allegedly placed the curse on him in New Orleans.

The actor reportedly suspected Vergara's former fiancé, Nick Loeb, might have been responsible, although no evidence has established that Loeb placed a curse on him. The shaman allegedly offered to perform a cleansing ritual, then he said: 'I shook my head, pulled out my phone, and began google searching flights to Guayaquil, Ecuador.'

The Curse Claims Spark Online Mockery

The story quickly became a target for jokes. Social media users are mocking Manganiello's account and bringing up the criticism he has faced over his marriage to Vergara.

One commenter wrote: 'Not beating the narcissist allegations', suggesting that the revelation would do little to silence his critics. Another user cast doubt on Manganiello's explanation, suggesting: 'It's starting to sound like a psychosomatic illness after all this crazy sh*t he's been saying'.

Then one particularly sarcastic comment joked: 'You ever land a complete goddess but an ex has hexed her with a curse that makes men who love her ill? HAS THIS EVER HAPPENED TO YOU?'

Another person also questioned the logic behind blaming someone else, saying: 'The latest excuse for why misogynists hate women is because... another man put a hex on us and so we're hexed and putting that curse on our new partners? What the f*ck joe'.

Actor Responds to Narcissism Speculation

The backlash comes amid renewed scrutiny of Manganiello's relationship with Vergara following the release of Bloodlines. The former couple married in 2015 and announced their separation in 2023, with their divorce finalised in 2024.

Vergara recently liked a social media post shared by her son, Manolo, which discussed the behaviour associated with narcissistic men. The post prompted speculation about whether it was aimed at Manganiello.

During an appearance on CBS Mornings, the actor was asked about the allegations. He encouraged people to read his memoir before making judgements, saying the book was about 'the suffering I went through'.
