Katie Zacharia appeared to poke fun at herself with a Halloween costume suggestion, encouraging social media users to recreate her expensive designer look from her brief stint at the White House. However, what appeared to be a tongue-in-cheek post quickly attracted criticism, with some users calling the former press secretary 'out of touch'.
Zacharia's suggested costume included a designer blazer, matching skirt and expensive stilettos, with the complete look estimated to cost around $2,500 (£1,900). Her remarks about her size and natural blonde hair also became talking points, as critics used the opportunity to mock her appearance and short-lived political career.
Halloween Designer Look by Katie Zacharia
Zacharia shared her satirical Halloween suggestion on X, giving followers a breakdown of the outfit she wore during her first and only White House press briefing. Under the heading 'Fit Check for Halloween Fans', she listed several clothing items, their brands and selected details about their sizes and availability.
The outfit included a Veronica Beard blazer and matching skirt, both in size 00, alongside Christian Louboutin Miss Z heels in lamb nappa leather with a 100mm stiletto heel. She also mentioned a blouse from Nordstrom, noting that both the shoes and blouse were sold out.
Her post also referenced her naturally blonde hair and included a remark about maintaining her size 00 figure after having four children. She ended the costume suggestion with 'Good luck!', adding to the sarcastic tone of the post.

Critics Mock the Expensive Outfit
Despite the apparent humour, Zacharia's post attracted plenty of harsh responses, with some users turning the joke against her. Several critics focused on the estimated price tag, arguing that the expensive outfit was out of touch with the financial struggles facing ordinary Americans.
'This makes you look stupid and out of touch with the American people', one person wrote. They added: 'Read the room. The people can't afford gas and you're rubbing a $2500 outfit in their faces'.
Others used the opportunity to mock Zacharia's brief time in the White House, with one commenter writing: 'You only needed one outfit because you only worked for one day!' Another joked: 'The delivery time on this would be longer than your career in the white house lol'.
Some responses questioned whether her short time in the spotlight had made her recognisable enough to inspire Halloween costumes. One commenter wrote: 'You had your 15 minutes. Not sure you were in the spotlight long enough for people to dress up like you'.
If I wanted to dress up like stupid, illiterate, resume stolen valor, less than 5 day press sec trash, I can buy this for less than a dollar. pic.twitter.com/6hW16Yt1t6

What an out-of-touch, stuck-up, snooty, snobby airhead! Nobody gives a rat’s ass about your sold out designer duds-as-Halloween costume (especially those super DUMB misspelled signs you had to print off to explain your pointless bomb of an attempt at a joke!).

Brief and Controversial White House Career
The jokes about Zacharia's short political career refer to her brief appointment as White House press secretary under US President Donald Trump. She held the position for just five days, from 12 to 16 October, after replacing Karoline Leavitt.
Her departure followed a rocky start, with her first and only press briefing lasting approximately 14 minutes. She drew criticism for relying heavily on prepared remarks, taking questions from just three reporters and ending the session earlier than expected.
Zacharia also faced scrutiny over her professional credentials after it emerged that she had graduated from Pepperdine University School of Law but had not passed the California bar exam. Although she had described herself as a lawyer, she defended her use of the term during media interviews, explaining that she had worked in international transaction law while living in China.
Trump publicly suggested that she reconsider the position, saying he did not want her to face harsh media criticism. White House officials subsequently confirmed her departure, although no single definitive official reason was given for her exit.
