Kim Kardashian is done watching her daughter get dragged online. In a candid and pointed response to the latest wave of criticism directed at 13-year-old North West, the SKIMS founder made clear that the public commentary about her daughter's appearance is not welcome, not warranted, and not based on anything resembling the truth. 'It's not your child', she said. 'You don't get a say.'

The most recent backlash centred on North's appearance in Paris, blue hair, an alternative wardrobe that most teenagers wouldn't blink an eye at. Kim's response was direct: North has been experimenting with coloured braids and clip-on piercings since preschool. 'She really is who she is and always has been that girl', Kim said. 'Unapologetic.'

This Has Been Going on for Years

What makes Kim's frustration understandable is that this is not a one-off. When her father, Kanye West, creates a public stir, North often becomes the focus too. People criticise her outfits and appearances, using her as a way to express their unhappiness that isn't related to her at all.

In October 2025, North went viral for wearing blue contact lenses, fluorescent braids, and an edgy graphic outfit to a Playboi Carti concert. Tabloids erupted over whether Kim was letting her grow up too fast. Then reports leaked that Kanye was furious about North's look, and the internet pointed out the hypocrisy of a man who regularly styles his wife, Bianca Censori, in near-transparent outfits, policing his 12-year-old daughter's braids.

It happened again in Mexico, where Kanye brought North on stage in front of 45,000 fans, and the wrong track played, causing her to halt the show. Rather than being seen as a child placed in an impossible situation by an adult, she faced accusations of lip-syncing and ruining the night.

All Eyes on North

Most recently, North's appearance at Paris Fashion Week triggered fresh commentary about her maturity. This grew so intense that British rapper Skepta publicly intervened on X (formerly Twitter), calling out grown adults crowding a 13-year-old for photos and clout.

Meanwhile, less than an hour away, her father was reportedly spending close to $400,000 on a masquerade-themed birthday party at the Château de Versailles, with wife Bianca Censori in a corseted bodysuit and feathered headpiece.

Father and daughter were in the same country, yet the internet's concern was directed squarely at the teenager.

Some people believe that the Kardashian-Jenner family invites criticism by keeping their kids in the spotlight. Kim's response would likely be simple: there is a difference between a child being seen and a child being targeted.

Kim Is Not Backing Down

Kim has spent the past six months stepping back from work to co-teach North's homeschool curriculum, built around fashion, budgeting, and brand-building. She describes her role as a nurturer, not a director. 'I nurture her', she said.

North West did not choose her parents, her last name, or the controversy that surrounds both. She chose blue hair and a fake septum ring, just like millions of teenagers do every day, without the whole internet talking about them.

Kim Kardashian has had enough of pretending the reaction to her daughter is normal. North is just a 13-year-old still trying to find her style, and the internet needs to give her a break.
