Kristen Stewart may have recently walked down the aisle in real life, but Bella Swan gave her the full traditional bride experience years earlier.
The actress recently looked back at Bella's now-iconic wedding dress from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1, and apparently, she remains rather fond of the gown that sent an entire generation of Twihards into bridal fever.
'I love that dress so much,' Stewart said during an interview with Who What Wear.
Designed by Carolina Herrera, the long-sleeved crepe satin gown featured a dramatic open back framed by French Chantilly lace, tiny covered buttons, and a timeless silhouette that belonged perfectly in Bella and Edward Cullen's woodland wedding.
For Stewart, however, putting it on also meant briefly becoming a kind of bride she already suspected she might never personally be.
'If I ever wanted to do the classic wedding dress, this is kind of the one,' she said. 'I'm not going to do it, but I got to do it and I do really appreciate that.'
Bella Swan, it seems, handled the traditional bridal fantasy for both of them.
While the lion may have fallen in love with the lamb and launched a war across multiple species, fans (Stewart included) will always be in love with Bella's wedding gown.
Here Comes the Bride All Dressed in White and Wedding Jitters
Getting Stewart into that famous dress was considerably less romantic than the finished scene suggested.
The actress remembered being kept hidden before filming so nobody could see Bella's highly anticipated bridal look ahead of the reveal.
Unfortunately, secrecy apparently came with heaters. Stewart recalled sitting in a hot room while waiting for the scene, with her make-up beginning to melt as the minutes ticked by. When she announced that she was ready, she was reportedly told there was still another half-hour to wait.
Her response was wonderfully committed to the assignment.
'I was like, "But I'm ready now. This is the time that I can play the bride."'
And play the bride she did, beautifully.
Bella eventually emerged in the Carolina Herrera creation to marry Robert Pattinson's Edward Cullen in one of the franchise's dreamiest scenes. In the Twilight version of Forks, the vampire duo celebrated their wedding anniversary on 13 August.
Fans Think Kristen Stewart Already Knew She Was Queer
Some fans believe Stewart's comments reveal that she already knew she was queer while filming Bella's wedding.
Her insistence that this was 'the time that I can play the bride', followed by her certainty that she would not choose the classic wedding dress for herself, has fuelled the theory that Stewart knew the traditional bridal fantasy she was portraying belonged to Bella, not her.
Stewart later came out publicly as queer and has spoken openly about her sexuality. While she has never explicitly connected her identity to those comments, fans have looked back at the interview as a rather telling glimpse of what she may already have known about herself.
What Stewart did make clear was that Bella gave her the opportunity to experience that particular version of bridal tradition. Of course, being queer never ruled Stewart out of a traditional wedding gown. If Twilight proved anything, it is that she can absolutely wear the heck out of one.
Bella's Wedding Dress Became Kristen Stewart's Something Borrowed
There is something rather lovely about Stewart looking back at Bella's wedding dress now.
The actress has since been open about her queer identity and married screenwriter Dylan Meyer in 2025. Their Los Angeles wedding looked very different from the lavish vampire nuptials Stewart filmed more than a decade earlier, proving just how different Kristen is from Bella. Or perhaps Alice, considering she was technically in charge of the styling.
She did not necessarily want the classic white-dress fairytale for herself, but she still enjoyed experiencing it through the eyes of a fictional character in love with a vampire.
Honestly, if you're going to live somebody else's traditional wedding fantasy for a day, Bella Swan's Carolina Herrera gown is a pretty spectacular 'something borrowed'.
Kristen Stewart Still Loves Bella's Carolina Herrera Gown
More than a decade later, Stewart's affection for the dress has apparently survived even if her personal style travelled in an entirely different direction.
Bella Swan (or Bella Cullen now) got the lace, buttons, and sweeping train. Kristen Stewart got the intimate wedding years later. Yet both brides got their happy-ever-after.
