The celebrity stylist recently revealed that he deliberately lies when questioned about Zendaya's reported marriage to Tom Holland, arguing that people are not entitled to the actress's private business. It might be an effective strategy if Roach had only ever been cornered into discussing the couple. 'She thought it was funny,' Roach replied. 'I'm still slightly spilling the tea about the wedding. You don't know if that lady married or not.'
He then made his position on questions about Zendaya's personal life much clearer. 'Stop asking me about somebody who I love's personal business,' Roach said, adding that people did not have the 'right', 'allowance' or 'agency' to ask him about it.
His solution: 'Every time you ask me, I'm going to tell your ass something different.' That certainly solves one problem. Anyone hoping to use Roach as the definitive source on Zendaya and Holland's relationship status has now been formally warned that the answer may come with a side of fiction.

The explanation did raise a bunch of eyebrows, especially on Reddit. One Reddit commenter pointed back to an earlier exchange in which Roach was reportedly asked for hints about Zendaya's wedding look, only for him to reveal that the wedding had already happened.
'Dude you are the one spreading the news,' the user wrote.
That point became central to some of the criticism. Their issue was not necessarily with Roach refusing to discuss Zendaya's private life. It was that intentionally supplying contradictory information seemed like a remarkably complicated alternative to simply declining the question.

One user went even further and suggested a ready-made response: 'I don't feel comfortable talking about her personal life, next question.'

Others pointed out that silence is not always silent in celebrity culture. A 'no comment' can quickly become a headline of its own, inviting fans to speculate about what someone supposedly refused to confirm or deny.
From that perspective, Roach is not failing to protect Zendaya's privacy by giving conflicting answers. Making the answers useless may be the protection.

Law Roach and Zendaya have worked together for more than a decade, and he made it clear that his approach comes from wanting to protect someone he loves.
Whether feeding the rumour mill conflicting information will eventually make it stop turning is another question. Judging by the fact that his explanation has now sparked an entirely new conversation about Zendaya's marriage, the machine appears to be functioning just fine.
