Country singer Nicole Taylor has died aged 35 after a battle with breast cancer, with her sisters revealing that the disease returned just nine months after she had responded well to treatment and been declared to have no evidence of the disease. The Taylor Red singer was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer in 2022 which later progressed to Stage 4.
Nicole's sisters and bandmates, Nika and Natalie Taylor, announced her death in an emotional TikTok video on 2 November. According to a memorial page created by her family, she died at her home in Nashville on 28 September.
'We're heartbroken to announce the passing of our sister, Nicole Taylor', Nika said. She added: 'We honestly thought she'd be healed here on earth, but now she's healed in heaven'.
Nicole Taylor's Breast Cancer Returned After Promising Treatment
Nicole was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer in 2022. Her sisters described the illness as aggressive, but said she faced the diagnosis with remarkable faith and refused to let fear take over her life.
Natalie recalled her sister's reaction when she first learned she had cancer, saying: 'God's gonna use this for his glory'. She also remembered Nicole's determination to remain positive throughout treatment.
'She fought it fearlessly, and she said, 'We're not going to live in dread during all of this', Natalie explained.
Nicole continued to exercise while undergoing chemotherapy, even doing CrossFit during treatment. Her sisters said she responded well and was subsequently declared to have no evidence of the disease.
However, the encouraging news was followed by a devastating development. Around nine months later, Nicole was told that the cancer had returned as Stage 4. The recurrence marked a significant change in her prognosis and left her loved ones facing a reality they had not expected after her initial response to treatment.
Doctors Gave the Singer Around Three Months To Live
Nika revealed that the family were given a particularly difficult prognosis after Nicole's cancer progressed. According to her account, doctors warned that even if further treatment worked, they could not say how much longer Nicole might live.
'[The doctor said] if the treatments worked, they didn't know how long [she'd have] after that', Nika recalled. The family were told Nicole had around three months to live. However, she survived for approximately a year after receiving that prognosis.
Rather than allowing the news to consume her, Nicole continued trying to make the most of her time. Her sisters remembered her determination to remain positive despite the uncertainty surrounding her health. Natalie became emotional as she spoke about the experience.
'We're still processing everything', she said. 'This, honestly, feels really hard to talk about, but we're going to do our best to share her story'.
Taylor Red Sisters Remember Nicole's Faith and Strength
Nicole performed alongside her sisters, Nika and Natalie, in country music group Taylor Red. The identical triplets formed the band in 2010 as Red Roots before moving from Mississippi to Nashville to pursue their music career.
The group later gained attention with its 2021 single 'Country Money', which found an audience on TikTok. According to the band's official biography, the sisters have performed more than 1,000 live shows.
But beyond their shared music career, the sisters' bond was rooted in family and faith. As they faced Nicole's cancer diagnosis and its devastating return, Nika and Natalie said their faith helped them hold on to hope.
'During the time of the more extreme diagnosis, we felt led to not live in fear and claim healing', Nika said.
Despite the Stage 4 diagnosis, the sisters continued to hope Nicole would recover. They now remember her for the faith and strength she showed throughout her battle.
