Bridget Bahl turns her fashion platform into breast cancer advocacy after her diagnosis and her mum’s cancer battle @bridget/Instagram

Fashion influencer Bridget Bahl has found a new purpose for her platform after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2024 and learning that her mother, Linda, also has the disease. The 42-year-old is now using her experience to raise awareness among her approximately 2 million social media followers and encourage women to prioritise their health.

The co-founder of fashion brand The Bar previously built her online presence around fashion, lifestyle content and dating advice. However, her cancer journey has given her a new reason to share her story, particularly with younger women who might not consider themselves at risk.

Bridget Bahl Finds New Purpose After Cancer Diagnosis

Bahl was diagnosed with stage 2 HER2-positive breast cancer in 2024 and began documenting her experience with chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery. Her followers, who had initially turned to her for style inspiration and relationship advice, have since learned about the realities of living with the disease.

'My whole thing before all of this — when this wasn't my story — everyone who followed me was like, a girl between 29 or 32 living in New York City and isn't married and hasn't found her person,' she told PEOPLE in an interview published on 23 October. Bahl said she found it meaningful that her audience continued following her and learning about breast cancer despite the change in content.

With no known family history of breast cancer or genetic predisposition, Bahl had not previously considered the disease a personal risk. Her experience has since made her passionate about raising awareness and supporting research into treatments that can improve outcomes for patients.

Bahl completed her active cancer treatment in May 2026 and was subsequently described as cancer-free. However, she has acknowledged that recovery can bring its own challenges. Advances in targeted treatments for HER2-positive breast cancer have also reinforced her belief in the importance of funding research.

Bahl's Mum Encouraged Her To Raise Awareness

Bahl revealed in October that her mother, Linda, had also been diagnosed with breast cancer. Although she initially struggled with the decision to share the news publicly, her mother encouraged her to use her platform to remind women to attend their medical appointments.

'She was like, "I just want you to tell everyone to go to their appointments, and that's it,"' Bahl recalled. Her mother's request reinforced the importance of the awareness work she had been doing since her own diagnosis.

Linda raised Bahl as a single mother, making the news particularly personal for the influencer. PEOPLE previously reported that doctors had detected Linda's tumour early. Her initial treatment plan included surgery, while the need for radiotherapy remained uncertain and chemotherapy was not expected to be necessary at that time.

Bahl said her mother's diagnosis made her feel there had been a purpose behind everything she had shared with her followers. By speaking openly about her experience, she hopes to encourage women to keep recommended medical appointments, pay attention to changes in their breasts and seek medical advice when needed.

Bridget Bahl Takes Her Advocacy Beyond Social Media

Bahl has extended her advocacy beyond social media by supporting initiatives that raise awareness and fund breast cancer research. During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Bahl joined Delta Air Lines and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) on the Breast Cancer One charter flight from Atlanta to Las Vegas, alongside 100 Delta employees affected by cancer.

The experience brought together women with shared experiences and included a panel discussion with BCRF researchers, moderated by Bahl. She said connecting with people who understood what she had been through brought her a great deal of joy.

'I loved this because I'm not merely going to talk on a panel, I'm going on a plane with people who are my people ... who get me and understand me and I get to understand them and I get to learn from everyone else,' she told PEOPLE.

Bahl also teamed up with Estée Lauder and The Bar for a breast cancer awareness pop-up in New York City earlier in October. The initiative encouraged women to pay attention to changes in their breasts and stay up to date with recommended screenings.

Bridget Bahl Finds New Purpose in Breast Cancer Advocacy

Although Bahl has completed active treatment, she continues to navigate recovery while supporting her mother through her own diagnosis. She now sees raising awareness as more meaningful than the fashion content that originally defined her career.

'Educating other people and creating awareness has given me more purpose in my life than any clothing or outfit I've ever posted,' she said. 'To me, the whole purpose of life is kind of using the hand you've been dealt to help other people.'
