Noah Kahan has spent years building a loyal fanbase through heartfelt music and honest storytelling, but this week he found himself making headlines for a very different reason. Within the space of just a few days, the 'Stick Season' singer was forced to publicly call out his own supporters twice over two completely separate incidents.
The first involved a shocking hygiene incident during one of his concerts, while the second centred on repeated thefts of a road sign mentioned in one of his songs. Together, the incidents have highlighted an unexpected challenge that comes with Kahan's growing popularity, as the singer increasingly finds himself reminding fans where enthusiasm should stop and basic respect should begin.
Concert Chaos Prompted an Unusual Plea
The first incident unfolded after Kahan's recent concert in Philadelphia, where a viral TikTok video appeared to show the aftermath of a fan defecating on the floor near the front of the crowd. The shocking moment quickly spread across social media, adding to ongoing conversations about concertgoers going to extreme lengths to avoid leaving their place near the stage.
Recent discussions have even centred on some fans wearing adult nappies so they do not lose their front row spot during lengthy performances. Kahan responded to the viral incident on X with his trademark humour, but he also delivered a clear message. 'If you have to poop at a show please dear god just go to the bathroom lmao', he wrote.
He then added, 'I've pooped my pants as much as the next 29 year old but you guys gotta understand there's a venue worker out there with a 1000 yard stare after dealing with that.' His response quickly gained attention, with many praising him for acknowledging the venue staff who were left to clean up after the incident.

Olivia Rodrigo Had Already Raised the Same Issue
Interestingly, Kahan's comments came only days after fellow singer Olivia Rodrigo spoke about similar behaviour during an interview on KISS Radio. Speaking with presenters Chloe Burrows and Tyler West, Rodrigo revealed that she had encountered concertgoers wearing adult nappies so they could remain at the front throughout shows.
'I have been to certain concerts and certain festivals where people wear diapers so that they can be front row of the show, and that's been an experience as a performer that I have... smelled', she said. Rodrigo also compared the practice to the crowds who gather for the annual Times Square New Year's Eve celebrations, where some attendees reportedly wear nappies after waiting in one place for hours.
Another Fan Problem Was Waiting for Kahan Back Home
The Philadelphia incident was not the only issue Kahan addressed this week. Earlier, he shared an Instagram Story asking fans to stop stealing the Alger Brook Road sign in Strafford, New Hampshire, after the location was mentioned in his 2022 song 'The View Between Villages'.
According to Kahan, the sign has been repeatedly stolen, creating unnecessary work for local officials and frustration for residents who live in the area. He explained that he once lived on Alger Brook Road and said it upset him that a lyric intended to celebrate his hometown had instead encouraged disruptive behaviour.
The Singer Offered To Help His Community
Rather than simply criticising those responsible, Kahan also offered practical support. He promised local residents and members of the town's select board that he would pay for replacement signs if necessary and said he was open to discussing other possible solutions.
His message also became a reminder that the places featured in his songs are real communities rather than tourist attractions. Kahan apologised to residents for the inconvenience and stressed how protective he remains of his family's privacy and the places that shaped his upbringing.
Growing Fame Is Bringing New Challenges
For many artists, a larger fanbase is a sign of success. For Kahan, however, this week showed that popularity can also bring unexpected problems. Whether reminding concertgoers to use the toilets or asking visitors to respect his hometown, he has found himself addressing behaviour that risks affecting workers, neighbours and local communities.
While the two incidents were completely different, they shared one clear message. Kahan wants fans to enjoy his music without forgetting basic respect for the people around them. As his audience continues to grow, it seems the singer is becoming just as focused on protecting the people behind the scenes and the place he proudly calls home as he is on performing for packed crowds.
