The debate surrounding rapper Tory Lanez has returned to the spotlight after supporters renewed calls for his release from prison, bringing fresh attention to claims involving Jay-Z's Roc Nation and the 2020 shooting case involving Megan Thee Stallion.
Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence after being convicted in 2022 of shooting Megan Thee Stallion following a party at Kylie Jenner's Hollywood Hills home.
Now, the '#FreeTory' movement is gaining traction again after US Representative Anna Paulina Luna publicly questioned the evidence used during the trial and called on California Governor Gavin Newsom to consider a pardon.
Florida Representative Questions Trial Evidence
Speaking during an interview with NewsNation host Chris Cuomo, Luna claimed that evidence presented to her office raised concerns about Lanez's conviction.

According to Luna, DNA testing on the firearm found multiple DNA profiles, but she argued that none belonged to Lanez. She also pointed to the lack of fingerprints on the weapon and questioned whether key evidence was properly considered during the trial.

'The evidence that we have says that he wasn't the guy', Luna said during the interview.
The Republican lawmaker added that she had contacted Governor Newsom's office and requested an emergency meeting regarding the case.
Supporters Renew Claims About Roc Nation
As discussion around the case intensified online, some Lanez supporters once again accused Jay-Z and Roc Nation of influencing public opinion because Megan Thee Stallion is represented by the entertainment company.
However, no evidence has been presented proving that Roc Nation influenced the criminal proceedings or the jury's decision.

The accusations have circulated on social media for years and continue to be shared by some members of the '#FreeTory' movement, particularly following new developments related to the rapper's prison sentence.
Neither Jay-Z nor Roc Nation have publicly responded to the latest claims.
Conviction Remains in Place
During the trial, prosecutors argued that Lanez shot at Megan Thee Stallion's feet after an argument in July 2020. Jurors heard testimony from Megan Thee Stallion and witness Kelsey Harris before ultimately finding Lanez guilty on multiple charges.

The conviction was upheld, and Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison in August 2023. Legal experts have noted that overturning a criminal conviction typically requires new evidence or proof of major legal errors during the original proceedings.
Prison Stabbing Fuels Fresh Attention
Interest in the case increased again after Lanez was stabbed multiple times while serving his sentence in a California prison earlier this year.

The incident sparked renewed support from fans who believe the rapper was wrongfully convicted.
Some supporters have suggested the attack was linked to upcoming evidence they believe could help clear his name. However, authorities have not publicly connected the prison stabbing to the criminal case.
Luna also referenced the attack during her interview, saying she had spoken with Lanez and believed prison reform should become a larger discussion.
What Happens Next?
For now, Lanez remains incarcerated, and his conviction remains legally valid. While supporters continue to campaign for his release, any effort to overturn the verdict or secure a pardon would require action from California officials or the courts.
The latest comments from Representative Luna have reignited public debate, but no official decision has been announced regarding a pardon request.
As the '#FreeTory' campaign grows online, the case continues to divide public opinion, with supporters arguing that key evidence was overlooked while others point to the jury's verdict and testimony presented during the trial.
