Russell Brand's awkward struggle to find a Bible passage during an interview with Piers Morgan has resurfaced following his conviction for rape and sexual assault, with viewers revisiting the exchange after he was remanded in custody.

The comedian spent more than a minute searching through the Bible he had taken to court when Morgan asked him to identify the passages that had been important to him. The footage has attracted renewed attention following the verdict on Thursday, 5 November, with social media users commenting on the lengthy silence and Brand's difficulty locating the verse he had previously been reading.

Brand Struggled To Find Bible Passage

The exchange took place during an appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored on 24 April 2026, when Morgan asked Brand about bringing a Bible to court. The presenter first checked whether it was the same copy before asking what Brand had been reading while sitting in the dock.

'What was your thinking of taking it into court and what were you seeing, looking at some passages? What were the relevant passages for you?' Morgan asked.

Brand thanked him for the question and began flicking through the pages, appearing to struggle to find the passage he had in mind. As Morgan waited, Brand continued searching while the presenter largely remained silent.

Brand eventually acknowledged that he could not locate the original verse, saying: 'I can't actually find the verse that I had that day, but this is good enough'.'He then turned to Isaiah 12 and read: 'I will praise you, Lord. Although you were angry with me, your anger has turned away and you have comforted me'.

The exchange was subsequently clipped and circulated online, with viewers commenting on the awkward pause and Morgan's reaction. The footage has now resurfaced following Brand's conviction, prompting fresh discussion on Reddit.

One commenter described the moment as 'two whole minutes of silence while a man who has been carrying around a bible as an accessory can't find a single verse'. Another wrote: 'I can't watch, I find secondhand embarrassment excruciating'.

A third viewer appeared particularly surprised by Morgan's restraint, commenting: 'Astonished that Piers Morgan managed to shut up and let Brand make a fool of himself uninterrupted'. One commenter also made a pointed remark about Brand's remand in custody, writing: 'Good news, Russell. You've got nothing but time now to find that elusive verse'.

Brand's Conviction Brings Renewed Attention to the Interview

The interview took place months before Brand's criminal trial concluded, when he was facing charges of rape and sexual assault. During the conversation, he discussed his Christian faith and the significance of the Bible he had brought to court, making his struggle to locate the passage a memorable part of the exchange.

On Thursday, 5 November 2026, a jury at Southwark Crown Court found Brand guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault involving four women. The offences for which he was convicted took place between 2004 and 2009, following a four-week trial.

The 51-year-old was acquitted of two further counts of rape and one count of attempted indecent assault. He denied the charges, maintaining that the sexual encounters were consensual, but was remanded in custody after Mr Justice Bennathan indicated that he faced a significant custodial sentence.

Brand is due to be sentenced at Southwark Crown Court on Monday, 9 November 2026, after being remanded in custody following the verdicts.
