The Spice Girls have sent fans into a frenzy with a cryptic teaser packed with references to their 1990s beginnings, prompting fresh speculation about a possible 30th-anniversary release.
Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Mel B, Melanie C and Geri Halliwell are at the centre of renewed interest after the group shared a mysterious video on Wednesday, 9 September 2026. The post directs fans to 2 p.m. BST on Thursday, 10 September, when the group is expected to make an announcement.
For now, the Spice Girls have not officially confirmed what is being announced. Fans have instead been examining the teaser for clues about a possible anniversary project connected to the group's 1996 debut album, Spice.
The Clues Fans Cannot Ignore
The teaser features the iconic staircase at London's St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, famously associated with the Spice Girls' 'Wannabe' music video, while the opening of the song can also be heard.
It also includes a copy of The Stage, the British entertainment publication linked to the group's earliest auditions. In 1994, an advertisement placed by Heart Management sought women aged 18 to 23 for a choreographed, singing-and-dancing all-female pop act. The auditions that followed eventually led to the lineup that became the Spice Girls.
The fictional advertisement in the new teaser asks whether viewers can 'sing and dance' and refers to 'a superfan, a collector, a music lover'. It also says fans will need a vinyl or CD player, fuelling speculation about a physical music release.
Another apparent clue is a fictional telephone number containing '(1009) 061126'. Fans have interpreted '1009' as 10 September and '061126' as 6 November 2026. However, 6 November remains a fan-decoded clue, not a confirmed release date.
Is 6 November the Big Date?
The 6 November theory has gained traction because 2026 marks 30 years since the Spice Girls' breakthrough year.
'Wannabe' was released in the UK on 8 July 1996 and spent seven weeks at No.1 on the UK Singles Chart. The group's debut album, Spice, followed in November 1996, reaching No.1 in the UK and becoming one of the decade's defining pop albums.
Guinness World Records recognises Spice as the best-selling debut album in the UK by a group, with more than three million UK sales.
The Spice Girls have not confirmed that 6 November will be the release date of a new edition of Spice. If the fan interpretation proves correct, the date would fall two days after the album's UK anniversary.
The physical-format references nevertheless make an anniversary catalogue release one of the strongest theories surrounding the announcement.
Anniversary Releases Have Precedent
The Spice Girls have previously marked major milestones with catalogue releases. In 2021, the group celebrated the 25th anniversary of 'Wannabe' with anniversary material including the original single, remixes, the original demo and the previously unreleased 'Feed Your Love'.
That year also brought the expanded Spice25 edition, followed by Spiceworld25 in 2022. Those campaigns provide a clear precedent for another anniversary-focused release in 2026.
Why a Reunion Is Still Part of the Conversation
A five-member comeback remains a possibility fans are discussing, although nothing in the teaser has officially confirmed one.
The group last toured in 2019 with Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell, Melanie C and Mel B, while Victoria Beckham did not participate. The original five later appeared together at Beckham's 50th birthday celebration in London in April 2024, where they were filmed singing and dancing to 'Stop'.
The private celebration was not an announced Spice Girls concert or tour. The Guardian reported that it was the first time all five had performed together since the 2012 London Olympics closing ceremony.
There is also a recent reason for caution. During an appearance on Australia's The Smallzy Show in March 2026, Melanie C said there would be no Spice Girls reunion in 2026, while expressing hope that the five could perform together in the future.
What the Teaser Confirms
At this stage, the Spice Girls have confirmed only that an announcement is scheduled for 2 p.m. BST on Thursday, 10 September 2026.
The teaser does not officially confirm a five-member reunion, reunion tour, concert, new studio album, 30th-anniversary edition of Spice or a 6 November release date.
The '061126' sequence remains a fan interpretation. Given the 30th anniversary of Spice and the teaser's emphasis on vinyl and CDs, an anniversary release is certainly plausible, but the group's official announcement is needed before any release details can be treated as confirmed.
For now, the clues point strongly back to the Spice Girls' original era; whether they lead to a major anniversary release, a reunion or something entirely unexpected remains to be revealed.
