Russell Brand's earlier remarks about the possibility of prison have resurfaced after The Sun quoted an unnamed source describing him as 'petrified' during his first night in custody. Brand was remanded at HMP Wandsworth after being convicted of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault on 5 November 2026.

He spent his first night in jail after a jury decided to refuse him from being able to post bail. As he awaits his sentencing, many look back on a recent interaction he had with his wife in a video they have together.

Brand Discussed Prison with Gallacher Before Verdict

During an October installment of the couple's Sunday Service online programme, Brand and his wife, Laura Gallacher, read a supportive message from a viewer as they awaited the outcome of his trial. The viewer's message prompted a conversation about how the couple might deal with the possibility of a prison sentence.

Brand appeared uncomfortable with the reminder that he could be sent to prison. Gallacher pointed out that imprisonment was a possible outcome of the proceedings. Brand responded by questioning why he should consider himself exempt from prison and then listed possible destinations, ranging from prison to theme parks and places overseas.

'Who do I think I am to not go to prison?' asked Brand. 'I go where you want. Prison, not prison, center parks, Legoland, Universal, Disney, Jerusalem, Gaza. Eye of the storm,' said Brand.

Brand subsequently apologised to Gallacher for reacting dismissively to the viewer's supportive message. 'I know. I was being sensitive. I'm so sorry. Thank you for the encouragement, mate. And I didn't mean to be, I was being dismissive. Thank you,' he said.

The discussion moved between serious questions about the court proceedings and more casual references to other places. At that stage, the trial had not concluded and the possibility of imprisonment remained hypothetical.

The exchange included the remark 'I go where you want,' which circulated again following the verdict. The precise date of the episode has not been established from the recording.

The Sun Reported on Brand's First Night in Custody

Following the verdict, Brand was remanded in custody at HMP Wandsworth after the court refused bail. The Sun subsequently published an account of his arrival, citing an unnamed source who described him as 'petrified.'

The newspaper also reported that Brand underwent a strip-search on arrival and was issued prison clothing and basic supplies. The reported arrival procedures were described as part of the newspaper's account of Brand entering the prison system.

A jury at Southwark Crown Court convicted Brand of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault involving four women. The offences took place between 2004 and 2009. He was acquitted of two further rape charges and one charge of attempted indecent assault.

Brand denied the charges before the trial. Two additional rape allegations remain under police investigation and have not been established in court. Brand is scheduled to be sentenced on Monday, 9 November 2026. At the time covered by these reports, sentencing had not yet taken place, and no sentence had been imposed.
