A Black University of Mississippi student has called on the university to respond after sharing Ring doorbell footage of two white women making monkey noises outside her apartment. Jakiyta Kaylee Metcalf shared the recording on TikTok after the incident on Friday, 6 November 2026. Her caption reads: 'what do we have to say about this ?? #olemiss @Ole Miss'.

Metcalf later said the women were her upstairs neighbours. Online reaction was livid with the actions, with one of the viewers commenting that they were planning to report this racist act to Ole Miss.

Ring Camera Records Noises and Gestures

Three white women appear in the recording as they pass Metcalf's apartment door. One hops into view, beats her chest and makes monkey noises, before a second moves closer to the Ring camera and repeats the sounds.

The third woman follows behind, smiling and watching the others. She appears alongside them in the footage but does not make the noises or perform the chest-beating gestures shown in the sequence.

The recording carries a timestamp of approximately 8.37pm CST on 6 November. Metcalf shared the clip on TikTok later that evening, tagging Ole Miss and asking the university to respond.

Metcalf Identifies Upstairs Neighbours

Metcalf added a comment beneath her TikTok post identifying the women as her upstairs neighbours. 'we just found out they are our upstairs neighbors,' she wrote, although that connection has not been independently confirmed.

She subsequently indicated that she intended to share further developments, writing: 'I will give an update when we get something.' She did not specify whom she expected to hear from or what information might follow.

Among the comments beneath the Ole Miss video, viewers expressed support for Metcalf and criticised the women's conduct. Haley Danielle questioned the encounter, writing, 'this is so unprovoked?', while Leah offered encouragement, suggesting the behaviour stemmed from jealousy.

Another commenter, Kayla, challenged the suggestion that having Black friends rules out racist behaviour. 'Be careful with who y'all befriend!' she wrote, broadening the discussion to trust within friendships.

Viewer Shares Complaint Addressed to Ole Miss

One viewer shared a screenshot of an email addressed to the University of Mississippi administration, with the subject line 'Formal Complaint Regarding Racial Harassment and Discriminatory Conduct by Ole Miss Students.' The message described the footage and called the behaviour 'deeply offensive, racially degrading, and unacceptable.'

The writer also expressed concern about racial hostility in students' living environments, stating: 'No student should have to experience this type of racial hostility or feel uncomfortable or unsafe in their own living environment because of their race.' The screenshot does not show a university reply or establish whether the complaint was received.

Previous Ole Miss Incident Led to Investigation

A separate confrontation on 2 May 2024 prompted Ole Miss to open a student conduct investigation after footage showed a white male counter protester making monkey noises and gestures towards a Black woman. The encounter occurred during a pro-Palestinian demonstration on campus.

Chancellor Glenn Boyce subsequently described some statements at the demonstration as 'offensive, hurtful, and unacceptable.' Phi Delta Theta separately removed a member over conduct connected to that confrontation.

The recording has moved an encounter outside Metcalf's door into a wider discussion about racism and accountability. Viewers' messages of support and a complaint addressed to Ole Miss show how that reaction has extended beyond the footage itself.
