Taylor Swift's 'Patient Zero' suffered a dramatic second-day drop on Spotify, falling from 13.7 million global streams on its first day to 5.55 million on its second — a decline of roughly 59 per cent across its first two days.
The sharp fall came a day after the track delivered a record-setting debut, becoming the most-streamed song by a female artist in a single day on Spotify in 2026 so far. It reached No. 1 on Spotify's Global chart with 13,709,109 streams on 25 September.
On 26 September, the song recorded 5,547,520 streams and ranked No. 2 globally, according to Spotify chart-tracking data.
The figures have prompted discussion online about whether Swift's latest release can maintain the exceptionally high streaming levels recorded during its launch.

The numbers are particularly striking because of how high 'Patient Zero' started.
The song opened with approximately 13.7 million global Spotify streams. Its first-day performance also made it the most-streamed song by a female artist in a single day on Spotify in 2026 so far, according to reports citing Spotify.
Swift's other newly released tracks also performed strongly as part of The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore. 'Cleveland!' debuted with around 9.6 million streams, while 'Pink Clouding' and 'Babylon' recorded approximately 8.7 million and 8.4 million respectively.
All four new tracks debuted inside the top four of Spotify's Global chart on 25 September.
By the following day, however, 'Patient Zero' had lost 8,161,589 daily streams, dropping by approximately 59.5 per cent from its opening figure.
Despite the decline, the song remained No. 2 globally on 26 September, showing that its second-day total was still substantial enough to keep it among Spotify's most-streamed songs worldwide. The percentage drop, however, does not tell the entire story.
Swift's other new tracks also remained prominent on the second day. 'Cleveland!' ranked No. 3 globally, while 'Babylon' was No. 5 and 'Pink Clouding' No. 6.
Whether 'Patient Zero' stabilises over the following days or continues to decline as the release moves further away from its launch will provide a clearer picture of its longer-term streaming performance.

Reddit Users Debate Swift's New Music
The steep second-day decline has also become a talking point on Reddit, where a discussion on r/Fauxmoi highlighted the fall from 13.7 million to 5.5 million streams.
The Reddit post described the 59 per cent decline as the biggest drop for a song by a female artist in Spotify Global history. However, that historical claim comes from the Reddit discussion and has not been independently verified as an official Spotify record.
Some commenters used the figures to criticise what they viewed as a change in Swift's music.
One Reddit user wrote: 'Listen i'm not the biggest fan of her personally but musically she has been stale for years. If you have this much name recognition & money please invest in people to help you create better music because yeesh'.
Another commenter described the track as 'a deeply depressing song imo'.
Others pushed back against characterising the performance as a collapse, pointing out that all four of Swift's new tracks remained among Spotify's top six global songs on the second day.
For now, 'Patient Zero' has both a record-setting debut and an unusually steep second-day decline. Whether the 59 per cent fall marks sustained weakening or simply reflects the exceptionally high concentration of first-day listening will become clearer as more streaming data emerges.
