A woman reveals the unusual marriage trick she has used for more than 20 years Pexel/Yan Krukau

A married woman has revealed the unusual 20-year strategy she says she uses to get her husband off the sofa and out of the house at weekends, admitting she deliberately uses sex to change his plans.

The anonymous Reddit poster, who says she has been married for nearly 30 years, explained that she discovered the tactic more than two decades ago after becoming frustrated by a familiar weekend routine. Her husband, she says, would work hard during the week and then spend his weekends in bed or watching television, while she got on with breakfast, childcare and cleaning.

When she suggested taking the children somewhere, going shopping, hiking or seeing friends, his response was reportedly the same: he had worked all week and wanted to relax.

Then she discovered something that could change the entire day's plans.

Her 20-Year Weekend Strategy

According to the woman's post, she eventually realised that if she initiated sex first thing in the morning, her husband would get up afterwards, shower and become ready to 'conquer the world'.

That gave her a simple choice. If she wanted a lazy day at home, she could leave him to his preferred weekend routine. But if she wanted to get the family out and about, she says she knew exactly what to do first.

The woman openly admits that she sees this as intentional manipulation, but insists she does not mind because she believes both partners get something they want from the arrangement.

In her version of events, her husband gets intimacy while she gets a husband who is awake, showered and prepared to take part in whatever plans she has made. It is this apparent trade-off that has left Reddit users divided over whether she has actually manipulated him at all.

Reddit Wonders Who Is Really in Control

Rather than simply agreeing that the woman has found a clever marriage hack, commenters quickly turned the question around. One user asked: 'I'm not sure who is actually manipulating who lol', while another joked that there was both 'manipulation and womanipulation' going on.

Others suggested the husband could be playing the long game. If he has realised that his wife uses morning sex as the trigger for getting him out of bed, one commenter argued, he may effectively be encouraging the routine because it means he gets more intimacy.

Another joked that the husband could be manipulating her into believing she is the one doing the manipulating.

That counterargument became one of the funniest parts of the discussion. The woman believes she has cracked the code for getting her husband moving, but some Reddit users suspect he may have worked out that her 'cheat code' benefits him too.

Is It Manipulation or Marriage?

A sizeable section of the discussion took a much less dramatic view.

Several commenters described the arrangement as ordinary married life, with one bluntly saying: 'It's called being married, it's not that serious.' Others called it a 'win-win' and said it sounded more like compromise than manipulation.

One commenter said they were married themselves and saw nothing wrong with the arrangement, while another described it as a form of positive reinforcement between two partners. That interpretation changes the story considerably. Rather than one partner secretly controlling another, the couple may simply have developed a private routine over decades that works for both of them.

There is, however, an important distinction. The Reddit post only gives the woman's perspective, so there is no way of knowing whether her husband sees the arrangement in exactly the same way.

The Real Story Is the Weekend Battle

Some commenters pointed out that the post is not really about sex at all. It is about getting two people with very different ideas about the perfect weekend to agree on a plan.

For the husband, according to his wife, a weekend means rest after a busy working week. For her, it can mean taking the children out, seeing friends, shopping or doing something active. Her solution is less about winning an argument and more about finding something that gets them both moving in the same direction.

After nearly 30 years of marriage, she appears to have found a routine she believes works. Whether that makes her manipulative, her husband secretly manipulative, or both of them simply very good at negotiating married life is another question.

And that may be why Reddit found the confession so entertaining. She thinks she has discovered the perfect way to get her husband off the sofa. The internet, meanwhile, is wondering whether he discovered the same trick years ago.
