Ashleigh Gardner's private marriage breakdown has exploded into one of Australian cricket's biggest off field stories after her estranged wife, Monica Wright, publicly identified the teammate she claims the vice captain had an affair with. In a series of Instagram posts, Wright named Australia opener Georgia Voll as the alleged third party, turning what had been a reported separation into a very public controversy.

Neither Gardner nor Voll has responded to the allegations, while Cricket Australia has also remained silent. With no official comment from those involved, the claims have continued to fuel discussion as one of the sport's biggest off field controversies.

Monica Wright Goes Public

The drama escalated shortly after the Daily Mail reported that Gardner and Wright had separated following a difficult breakdown in their marriage. Rather than letting the report speak for itself, Wright shared it on her Instagram Story and suggested it left out key details. She wrote that the story was 'too vague' before promising to explain what had really happened.

Moments later, Wright uploaded a photograph of Australia opener Georgia Voll with the caption: 'This is who my wife cheated on me with.' The post quickly attracted widespread attention across social media, placing both Gardner and Voll at the centre of allegations that have not been independently verified. Wright has also removed every photograph of Gardner from her Instagram account, including pictures from their wedding.

Their Marriage Quickly Unravelled

Gardner and Wright married in April 2025 in a ceremony attended by several members of Australia's women's cricket team. According to the Daily Mail, however, cracks in the relationship reportedly began to appear within two months while Gardner was in India competing at the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup.

A source told the publication that teammates noticed something seemed different during the tournament, particularly after Wright travelled to India to visit Gardner. At the time, many reportedly believed the tension was simply caused by the pressures of international cricket. Instead, the tour is now being viewed as the point where the relationship allegedly began falling apart.

One Conversation Changed Everything

After returning to Sydney, Gardner reportedly had a private conversation with Wright that effectively ended their marriage. The Daily Mail reported that Wright was left 'shattered' after Gardner explained why things had changed during the India tour. Although the publication did not reveal the full details of that conversation, it stated that Gardner later attempted to repair the relationship.

Despite those reported efforts, the marriage could not be saved. The split became even more heartbreaking because the couple had reportedly been planning to start a family together. They had allegedly arranged an appointment at a fertility clinic before deciding to separate.

The Split Shook the Team

Gardner allegedly moved out of the home they shared, leaving only their wedding rings behind. Sources also claimed the separation surprised many within Australia's close knit women's cricket squad. Wright had reportedly built strong friendships with several players over the previous five years despite not being a cricketer herself.

She and Gardner had originally met through a dating app before becoming engaged in 2024 and marrying the following year. With one of Australia's senior players now at the centre of the controversy, the allegations have become one of the biggest talking points surrounding the national team.

Cricket Australia Remains Silent

Gardner has not commented on Wright's allegations, while Voll has also remained silent. Gardner is understood to have removed at least one wedding photograph from her own social media following the separation. Cricket Australia has also declined to discuss the matter.

When approached for comment, senior communications chief Richard Hinds simply replied with 'no comment'. The governing body has not indicated whether it plans to make any further statement.

Allegations Remain Unanswered

Wright's Instagram posts remain the only public source of the affair allegations. No evidence has been presented publicly to support the claims, and neither Gardner nor Voll has confirmed or denied the accusations. As a result, the allegations remain unverified.

Even so, Wright's decision to publicly identify the teammate she believes was involved has transformed what began as a reported marriage split into one of the most talked about controversies in Australian cricket, leaving many questions unanswered while those at the centre of the story continue to stay silent.
