Ben Affleck has admitted he is still 'afraid' of Rosamund Pike 12 years after they starred opposite each other in Gone Girl. The actor joked that his former co-star still has the mysterious quality that made her portrayal of Amy Dunne so chilling.
Affleck, 54, looked back on the 2014 psychological thriller while speaking to Variety about his new film Animals, admitting that Pike's performance had left a lasting impression on him. 'I'm still afraid of Rosamund Pike,' he said of his former co-star.
Her Amy Dunne Performance Left a Lasting Impression
Ben Affleck then imagined what it would be like to bump into Pike, who played his on-screen wife in David Fincher's adaptation of Gillian Flynn's bestselling novel. Mimicking Pike's British accent, he imagined her greeting him: 'Hello Ben, it's nice to talk to you. It's good to see you again.'

His reaction to the imagined reunion was telling as he joked: 'Oh, f***. She still has that, I don't know what, that quality.' Affleck quickly made it clear that his comments were intended as praise, adding that Pike was 'great in the movie' and gave a 'great performance'.
Pike's Amy became one of the most memorable characters in modern psychological thrillers, with the actress transforming the seemingly perfect wife into one of the film's most calculating figures. The film begins with Amy's disappearance on her fifth wedding anniversary, leaving her husband Nick Dunne, played by Affleck, under intense scrutiny as suspicion surrounding her vanishing grows.
12 years ago on this very day, Gone Girl hit cinemas to critical and commercial success, becoming David Fincher’s highest-grossing film to date and earning Rosamund Pike an Oscar nomination for Best Actress, which she should’ve won in my opinion.

As the story unfolds, Amy's carefully constructed public image begins to unravel, revealing a far more manipulative side to her character. Her elaborate plan turns the missing-person mystery into a dark examination of marriage, revenge and the lengths someone might go to control the story being told about them.
Pike's performance earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress and became one of the defining roles of her career. More than a decade later, Affleck's comments suggest that the impression she made as Amy has not entirely faded, even for the actor who spent months playing opposite her.
Affleck Admits He Never Really Knew Pike
Affleck also offered a surprisingly personal reason for why Pike continues to seem so mysterious to him. He described her as 'enigmatic and mysterious' and admitted that he does not think he ever really got to know her during their time working together.
That observation makes his joke about still being afraid of Pike all the more amusing because it appears to be rooted in genuine admiration for her ability to disappear into a character. Rather than suggesting he is genuinely frightened of his former co-star, Affleck was praising the quality that made her portrayal of Amy so convincing.
The actor has also spoken warmly about working with Fincher, describing Gone Girl as a particularly rewarding experience because of the director's confidence and precision. Affleck said he trusted Fincher enough to do whatever the filmmaker asked, knowing that the director had a clear vision for the film.
He Sets the Record Straight on That Shower Scene
Affleck even addressed one of the more enduring questions surrounding Gone Girl: whether he used a prosthetic during the film's infamous nude shower scene. He confirmed that he did not, telling Variety: 'I wore no prosthesis,' while explaining that the only prosthetic he had previously worn was a nose for Hollywoodland.

Affleck's latest Gone Girl comments come as he promotes Animals, the new thriller he directed, co-wrote and stars in alongside Kerry Washington. But 12 years after audiences first met the terrifyingly calculating Amy Dunne, it seems Pike's performance still has enough power to make her former on-screen husband a little nervous.
