David Geffen was reported on 3 November to have reunited with his ex-husband Donovan Michaels just seven months after their divorce was finalised and their relationship became embroiled in a bitter legal battle. The Daily Mail reported that the two have been spotted on Geffen's yacht together, while Page Six said that sources close to the two say that they're back together.
The 83-year-old billionaire and his 33-year-old former spouse were said to be 'very much back together' during an October outing aboard Geffen's enormous superyacht, despite the shocking allegations that surrounded their split. Their apparent reconciliation comes after Michaels accused the entertainment mogul of exploiting him and creating tension when he decided to get sober..
A Surprise Yacht Reunion
The former couple reportedly reconnected during an October outing aboard Geffen's 454-foot superyacht, Rising Sun. Sources familiar with their relationship described them as appearing romantically-involved again, with one insider offering a simple explanation: 'The heart wants what the heart wants.'
It was not their first sighting together since their separation, however, as the pair were also photographed aboard the vessel in June. At the time, they appeared to be on friendly terms but were not seen displaying any obvious affection, making the latest reunion particularly surprising given their recent divorce.
Their Bitter Divorce Battle
Geffen and Michaels married in a private Beverly Hills ceremony in 2023, without signing a prenuptial agreement. Their marriage lasted less than two years before Geffen filed for divorce in 2025, setting off a contentious dispute that eventually ended with their divorce being finalised in April 2026.
Michaels filed a civil lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court in July 2025, accusing the billionaire of sexual, emotional and financial exploitation. His 33-page complaint described an alleged relationship built around dependency and control, while Geffen denied the accusations and his attorney dismissed the lawsuit as 'pathetic.'
The £7.5K First Encounter
Among the most startling details in Michaels' complaint was his account of how the pair allegedly first met through SeekingArrangements.com, a website connecting people seeking financially beneficial relationships. The former dancer claimed Geffen paid him £7,454 ($10,000) for sex during their first encounter.
The alleged arrangement eventually developed into a romantic relationship, with the pair going on to marry several years later. Michaels also claimed that Geffen used promises of love, lavish displays of wealth, and financial support to establish an unequal dynamic between them, allegations that formed part of his legal complaint.
Sobriety Became A Problem
One of the most serious aspects of the lawsuit concerned Michaels' decision to enter treatment and work through Alcoholics Anonymous' 12-step programme. He alleged that his efforts to become sober created tension in the relationship, claiming Geffen did not want him to become healthier and instead wanted control over their dynamic.
The complaint also alleged that Michaels was expected to use cocaine, MDMA (commonly known as molly), and cannabis alongside Geffen and some of his wealthy friends. He claimed the pressure to keep up with that lifestyle contributed to his emotional difficulties, although Geffen denied the allegations and there has been no confirmation that Michaels has returned to substance use.
Painful Beauty Treatments Alleged
The lawsuit contained another unusual allegation, claiming Geffen expected Michaels to undergo painful cosmetic procedures to meet his standards of physical perfection. These reportedly included laser hair removal and dental treatments, with Michaels alleging that even an ingrown hair could trigger an angry reaction from the billionaire.
Michaels also claimed that Geffen had promised to support him financially for life before withdrawing that commitment when their relationship deteriorated. Geffen's legal team disputed his financial claims, while court filings reportedly showed that the billionaire provided £148,217 ($200,000) in cash after their separation, another £148,217 ($200,000) towards rehabilitation and a rent-free Manhattan apartment.
Lawsuit Settled Before Reunion
Michaels withdrew his civil lawsuit in October 2025, and the former couple reportedly reached a confidential settlement the following month. Their divorce was subsequently finalised in April 2026, seemingly bringing an end to a relationship that had attracted considerable attention because of its age gap and extraordinary financial circumstances.
Neither Geffen nor Michaels has publicly confirmed that they are romantically back together following the latest yacht outing. Meanwhile, the reported reconciliation has prompted plenty of bemused reactions online, with one commenter joking, 'The hustlers hustling,' while another admitted they could have gone through life without knowing the details.
For now, whether the former spouses are genuinely giving their marriage another chance remains unclear.
