During her final fitting in Rome, Cameron revealed why she moved away from the extravagant wedding aesthetic she had imagined when she was younger and instead chose a gown she described as classic and 'timeless'.
Dove Cameron Wanted Her Wedding Dress to Feel Like Herself
Despite having imagined an elaborate wedding when she was younger, Cameron said she had not spent much time thinking about what a conventional bridal gown would look like on her.
For her Valentino dress, the singer wanted something understated but elevated. She said the goal was to create something 'simple but elevated' that would feel classic and timeless while still looking recognisably like her.
The resulting gown was made from silk satin and flowing silk chiffon, with a sculpted bustier forming the upper portion of the dress. Rather than choosing a large traditional bridal skirt, Cameron opted for a silhouette that followed the body before extending into a train.
Silk-covered buttons ran down the gown, with the lower section left open to create movement and a split. The decision reflected Cameron's desire to avoid wearing something simply because it was traditionally associated with bridal fashion.
Her Childhood Wedding Fantasy Looked Very Different
Cameron's eventual Valentino gown contrasted sharply with the wedding she had imagined as a child. She recalled picturing herself getting married at Carnegie Hall while wearing an enormous black feathered dress. The fantasy also included a 32-piece orchestra.
Her actual bridal look abandoned much of that theatricality in favour of a white gown with a more restrained silhouette. It also included a four-metre silk tulle veil decorated by hand with crystals and beads arranged to create a celestial effect. Cameron, whose middle name is Celeste, said she wanted the veil to feel 'really celestial'. Crystal Valentino hair clips completed the look.
Cameron Gets Emotional During Final Valentino Fitting
Cameron became emotional when she saw the completed gown during her final fitting in Rome. She explained that finding clothes in which she genuinely feels like herself can be difficult, making her reaction to the Valentino design particularly significant. Her mother and sister were unable to attend the fitting in person, so Cameron contacted them by video call. Her grandmother also joined the call and told her she looked 'gorgeous'.
David, meanwhile, was kept from seeing the completed bridal look ahead of the wedding. The fitting allowed Cameron to see the different elements of the gown, veil and accessories together before the celebrations in Tuscany.
Why Cameron Chose Valentino for Her Wedding
Cameron's relationship with Valentino extended beyond choosing a designer for a single wedding dress. She described the Italian fashion house as a dream choice and indicated that selecting Valentino was one of the decisions surrounding the wedding that she did not question. Michele, who became Valentino's creative director in 2024, designed Cameron's custom gown.
While his work for the house has frequently embraced elaborate embellishment and maximalist references, Cameron's bridal gown took a comparatively restrained approach. Its impact instead came from its construction, fabric, elongated silhouette and veil.
For Cameron, that simplicity aligned with what she wanted from the finished look: something recognisable as bridal without making her feel as though she were wearing somebody else's idea of a wedding dress.
