Dua Lipa stepped out in a pair of bizarre mushroom-shaped Chanel heels at Paris Fashion Week, pairing the surreal footwear with a dramatic feathered red dress.

The singer turned heads as she arrived at Chanel's Spring/Summer 2027 show at the Grand Palais in Paris on 6 October, completing her striking look with floral details, a bejewelled Chanel handbag and her hair swept into a sleek high ponytail.

A Whimsical Touch to the Chanel Front Row

Lipa's outfit proved particularly fitting for a Chanel show under creative director Matthieu Blazy, whose work for the French fashion house has increasingly explored fantastical interpretations of the natural world.

The 'New Rules' hitmaker's dress featured dramatic feathered detailing, while floral elements added to its romantic feel. A thigh-high split brought another striking element to the ensemble as she posed outside the show.

But beneath the elaborate dress was an even more unexpected fashion statement.

Lipa wore Chanel's two-tone slingback pumps, which feature an elongated pointed toe and contrasting black cap-toe detailing. The shoes' most eye-catching feature, however, was the sculpted brown heel, which flared outward into a shape resembling a mushroom.

The Designer's Fungi Fascination

The unusual footwear is far from a random choice. Mushroom-inspired designs have become one of the more distinctive elements of Blazy's Chanel aesthetic since his debut at the house.

For his Spring 2026 Haute Couture collection in January, Blazy transformed the Grand Palais into a fantastical garden filled with giant mushrooms and pink weeping willows. The fungi-inspired theme also appeared throughout the collection, including in sculptural shoe heels and clothing decorated with mushroom motifs.

Lipa was among the celebrities attending that couture presentation and appeared to embrace Blazy's whimsical approach. Vogue previously highlighted the singer's appreciation for the mushroom heels, with Lipa saying: 'I also loved the mushrooms heels. It made me want to throw out everything in my wardrobe, and only have made-to-measure things.'

Her latest appearance brings the unusual footwear full circle, with Lipa once again wearing Chanel's mushroom heels several months after they first made an impression on the couture runway.

Nature-Inspired Fashion Takes Root

Although the Spring/Summer 2027 presentation moved beyond mushrooms, Blazy continued to create a fantastical setting for the Chanel show. The presentation featured a giant moon suspended above the runway, along with 95 luminescent seagulls and origami cranes. The collection also explored different chapters of Gabrielle Chanel's life while continuing Blazy's playful approach to the house's established codes.

Lipa's feathered and floral look appeared to fit neatly into that world, combining familiar Chanel elements with exaggerated references to nature. Her mushroom heels also arrive as botanical details continue appearing across fashion, particularly in footwear. Designers have been embracing flowers and corsage-like embellishments, turning traditionally delicate motifs into more prominent statement pieces.

Harper's Bazaar recently declared the corsage shoe to be 'having a moment', pointing to floral footwear from Chanel, Dior and Givenchy. Footwear News has also reported that the garden-inspired shoe trend is continuing into Spring 2027, with designers including Proenza Schouler incorporating botanical references into their footwear.

Chanel's interpretation simply takes the trend in a more surreal direction. Rather than settling for a conventional floral pump, the French fashion house has transformed the humble mushroom into a sculptural heel. And with Lipa wearing the design at one of the biggest events on the Paris fashion calendar, the quirky fungi-inspired shoe has received another high-profile moment in the spotlight.
