The internet is currently buzzing about Christopher Nolan's new film, The Odyssey, not because of Matt Damon's look or Tom Holland's intense workout routine for Spider-Man. The real talk of the town is Elliot Page's impressive abs, and fans genuinely cannot get over it.
The 39-year-old actor sent social media into meltdown after sharing a shirtless boxing photo on Instagram, training alongside his New York coach Nolan Hanson at the legendary Gleason's Gym in Brooklyn. The image showed a six-pack so defined that one fan admitted in the comments they assumed Page was simply wearing a T-shirt with an abs print on it. Another joked you could practically do laundry on those abdominal muscles, while the post racked up reactions across multiple entertainment outlets within hours of going live.
Training Hard for 'The Odyssey'
For those unfamiliar with the term, 'sleeper build' refers to someone who looks lean or unassuming in regular clothes but hides serious, hard-earned muscle underneath. It's the celebrity equivalent of judging a book by its cover and getting it spectacularly wrong, and right now Page is the example everyone's pointing to.
Page didn't hold back when crediting his trainer for the transformation. In his caption, he called Hanson a brilliant teacher, praising not just his technical coaching but his thoughtful approach to the psychological side of boxing.
He shared that training with Hanson is now a key part of his life. The mental discipline he built is important, especially since Page is about to play a character known for manipulation in a story. A sport that focuses on reading opponents and managing stress under pressure feels like a fitting preparation.
Unexpected Competition on Set
Holland has spent nearly ten years working on his physique for Spider-Man. He was expected to be the fittest cast member on Nolan's set, playing Telemachus alongside Damon's Odysseus. Damon is known for his dramatic role transformations, so the expectation was always that the two of them would dominate any conversation about the film's physical prep.
Page's transformation, however, came more as a surprise. Boxing's high-intensity intervals and constant core movements helped him lose fat while keeping lean, functional muscle.
This approach produces the kind of clear, toned appearance that is currently trending and matches Holland and Damon's.
Page's Character on 'The Odyssey'
Page is reportedly playing Sinon, a cunning Greek soldier drawn from Virgil's Aeneid rather than Homer's original text. In the myth, Sinon allows himself to be captured by the Trojans and convinces them that the wooden horse is a peace offering, ultimately leading to Troy's downfall. It was initially speculated that he would play the Greek hero Achilles or Odysseus's crewmate Elpenor.
The Oversized Blazer Era May Be Over
Page has long favoured relaxed, oversized tailoring on press tours and red carpets. With a physique like this, stylists may now have a new direction to play with: sharper cuts, slimmer lines, fabrics that sit close to the body rather than swallow it.
The Odyssey hits cinemas on 17 July with a star-studded cast, including Damon, Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Charlize Theron and Robert Pattinson. If Page's week is anything to go by, the build-up is only getting started.
