Ernestine Bayless has a problem with the word fairytale, and she is not being quiet about it. In a YouTube video posted on 30 June, Skip Bayless' wife tore into the morning television coverage of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's reported wedding at Madison Square Garden, questioning why a celebrity marriage was suddenly being treated as a national event.

It is the latest chapter in a running feud between the Baylesses and Swift coverage, one that started weeks earlier when Skip called the singer's courtside appearance at the Knicks' NBA Finals win 'disgusting'. That controversy never fully died down, and comments from Ernestine about the wedding have brought it back into the spotlight.

Why Is Swift Getting the Royal Treatment

Ernestine did not hold back on the comparison outlets kept making. Watching CBS Mornings frame Swift's big day as 'a fairy tale ending to a princess', she pushed back directly, pointing to Princess Diana as the last wedding that genuinely earned that level of coverage, noting it was 'bigger than Meghan Markle'.

Her frustration boiled down to one line: 'What is going on here? I don't get it.' Diana's wedding had the backing of a real royal institution, which is a significant difference. In contrast, while Swift and Kelce are famous, they lack that official support. Ernestine's concern is about the media using royal language to describe a celebrity event that doesn't deserve it.

Round Two of the Bayless-Swift Standoff

This is not Ernestine's first swing at Swift coverage this month. Skip had already called Swift a 'phoney Knicks fan' for cheering courtside during Game 4 of the NBA Finals, branding her enthusiasm 'stomach-churning' and accusing her of being a 'brilliant marketer' rather than a genuine supporter.

The comments caused quite a stir. Knicks star Jalen Brunson later defended Swift, telling reporters, 'she's a really good one, cut her some slack.' Rather than back down after that pushback, the Baylesses doubled down, and Ernestine's fairytale remarks continued from where the Knicks issue had left off.

Borrowing a Line From Susan Powter

To land her point, Ernestine reached for an unlikely reference: Susan Powter, the 90s fitness personality best known for the infomercial catchphrase 'stop the insanity'. She wished Swift and Kelce well, hoping they would 'get married and live happily ever after', before adding that she wanted the nonstop coverage to stop, borrowing Powter's line almost word for word. It is a strange pairing on paper, but it captures her actual complaint. She is not against the wedding, but is against being told that its coverage is a fairytale.

This Story Isn't Closing Any Time Soon

The coverage she is describing shows no sign of slowing. CBS Mornings devoted another segment to the wedding earlier this week, with commentators speculating about gestures Swift might make for fans on the day itself.

More than $4.5 million in wagers have been placed on Kalshi regarding Taylor Swift’s wedding to Travis Kelce, the platform told CBS News, as Swifties predict where the pair will get married and who will be in the wedding party. Meanwhile, at Madison Square Garden, CBS News cameras spotted signs labeled “garden party” on trucks with equipment being loaded into the venue. #taylorswift #traviskelce #nyc #wedding #msg

Between that and the Knicks fallout still simmering, Ernestine Bayless might have more to say in the coming days. The wedding is reportedly happening on 3 July, and the fairytale narrative she is pushing back on looks set to run right up to the ceremony, whether she gets on board with it or not.
