Florence Pugh is keeping her relationship with Finn Cole private, but she has no interest in making it a secret. The Oscar-nominated Little Women actress has offered one of her clearest comments yet about the Peaky Blinders star, explaining why the couple can acknowledge their romance without opening every part of it to public scrutiny.
Speaking in an interview published on Friday, 25 September, Pugh said she and Cole are happy with the balance they have found after being publicly linked since 2024. 'I don't want to be a secret, but I also don't want everything to be divulged,' the 30-year-old said. 'The important thing is that we're happy, and I feel solid and safe and sturdy.'
The comments arrive as Pugh enters another major moment in her career. Her new Netflix limited series East of Eden, in which she stars as Cathy Ames and serves as an executive producer, began streaming on Thursday, 1 October.
Florence Pugh Draws a Line Between Privacy and Secrecy
Pugh did not suddenly turn the conversation into a relationship tell-all. Asked how she and Cole met, she simply declined to answer, joking beforehand that questions were allowed but that she 'might not tell you everything'. The exchange made her position unusually clear: the relationship itself is not being denied, while the details surrounding it remain theirs to decide.
the story of how finn cole manifested florence pugh will always make me giggle. bro went from suggesting casting her on peaky decades ago to then a long-term relationship with her and probably marry her i’m totally ok about this 😂❤️ https://t.co/2YHHtDz6QN

That approach is consistent with how Pugh has handled her personal life in recent years. In 2024, before going Instagram public with Cole, the Midsommar and Dune: Part Two star confirmed she was seeing someone and said she was deliberately allowing the relationship to develop slowly rather than rushing into it. At the time, she described wanting 'safety, family, a home and security' and said the pair were still figuring out what their relationship was.
Two years later, her language suggests that the relationship has moved into steadier territory. Pugh described feeling 'solid and safe and sturdy', adding that the feeling was 'worth its weight in gold in our lives'. She even revealed that she had wondered beforehand whether Cole would come up during the interview and told him so.
Florence Pugh and Finn Cole Have Become More Public
Pugh and Cole, known for playing Michael Gray in Peaky Blinders and Joshua 'J' Cody in Animal Kingdom, have been connected publicly since 2024 but largely avoided making their relationship part of their press appearances. That changed more visibly in March 2026 when Pugh shared a photograph of herself with Cole following a Bulgari event in Milan, effectively taking their relationship Instagram public.
Florence Pugh and Finn Cole are one of those celebrity couples that makes you stop and go, “Wait… them?”

She’s Florence Pugh. He’s Michael Gray from Peaky Blinders.
They were first linked in 2024, but somehow managed to keep things surprisingly quiet.

The couple have since been photographed together, including during an outing in New York over the summer, but neither has turned the relationship into a regular social media storyline. Pugh's recent comments appear to define the middle ground they have chosen: visible enough that the relationship is not treated like something to conceal, but private enough that not every detail becomes public property.
It is also a contrast Pugh has had reason to think about before. She previously spoke publicly about the intense scrutiny surrounding her relationship with actor and filmmaker Zach Braff, which ended in 2022, saying at the time that attention around the couple had affected both them and their families.
Pugh Is Keeping Some Parts of Her Life Offline
Pugh's approach extends beyond her relationship with Cole. The Marvel star said she no longer feels the same pull to document everyday life online that she did when she was younger, with her social accounts increasingly centred on work, red-carpet appearances and occasional personal glimpses.
Her latest comments therefore stop short of a traditional celebrity relationship reveal. Cole is no longer unnamed or hidden from view, but Pugh is still choosing what remains outside the public record. As she promotes East of Eden and moves into another packed stretch of films, her description of the relationship is straightforward: people can know it exists without knowing everything about it.
