Florence Pugh brought a little fairytale magic and a lot of attitude to the 2026 Emmy Awards. The actress stepped onto the red carpet in a dreamy lilac Vivienne Westwood gown, but it was her deliberately messy updo that added an edgier twist to the look.
Instead of going for a perfectly polished princess moment, Pugh appeared to be serving something closer to a punk rock royal. The combination of the soft, shimmering dress and undone hair immediately caught fans' attention, with one writing: 'She's breathtakingly beautiful.'

The Vivienne Westwood Look
Pugh wore a custom lilac gown by Vivienne Westwood, designed by Andreas Kronthaler. The dress featured a structured corseted bodice, dramatic draped sleeves and a sweeping train that gave it plenty of red carpet drama.
The pale lavender shade made the look feel soft and romantic, while the gown's structured shape brought in that unmistakable Vivienne Westwood edge. Its delicate shimmer and sculptural draping made it look almost otherworldly, especially as the fabric gathered around her arms and fell behind her.
When it came to her hair, Pugh kept the intentionally undone feel with a voluminous updo. Tousled texture, sculptural loops and loose pieces framing her face completed the look. It was far from the neat, ultra-sleek hairstyles usually paired with couture gowns, and that contrast was exactly what made the look so interesting.
From Barbie to Greek Muse
Fans were quick to share their thoughts, and the comparisons were wonderfully varied. One Reddit user summed up the look as 'punk rock princess vibes', which perhaps captured the unusual mix of softness and edge better than anything else.
Others went straight into Barbie territory, calling it 'Barbie Rapunzel' and giving off '90s Barbie prom queen' energy. One admirer also pointed out Pugh's dreamy eyes, saying they complemented the entire look perfectly.
The fairytale comparisons did not stop there. Another fan called her appearance 'heavenly' and said she looked like a 'Greek muse', while someone else described her as a 'faerie princess', noting that the looped fabric around her shoulders resembled wings.
Her hair received just as much attention. One fan said they loved it, describing the styling as 'upscale Y2K prom fantasy' and comparing it to The Princess Diaries mixed with Christina Aguilera. It is a surprisingly specific combination, but somehow makes sense when looking at the finished ensemble.

Florence Pugh at the Emmys
Despite attracting plenty of red carpet attention, Pugh was not nominated for an Emmy this year. She attended the ceremony as a presenter, joining Julia Garner to present the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series award to Rhea Seehorn for Pluribus.
Her appearance nevertheless gave fans plenty to discuss, particularly as she continues to build anticipation for Netflix's upcoming adaptation of East of Eden, in which she stars. The series is scheduled to premiere on 1 October.
For now, Pugh's lilac Vivienne Westwood moment has already made an impression among the evening's standout fashion looks. The gown somehow brought together a Greek muse, Barbie Rapunzel, a Y2K prom queen and a punk rock princess.
