A Scottish model has spoken about living with macromastia, a rare condition associated with excessive breast growth, after revealing that her chest developed to a C-cup almost overnight when she was eight years old. Summer Robert, now 28, says her breasts have continued growing over the past two decades and that she currently wears an estimated 30R bra size.
The model, who lives in Australia, claims her breasts weigh more than 25kg (almost four stone) and believes they may now be even larger. Although her appearance has helped her establish a successful career as an online content creator, Robert says the condition has brought physical discomfort, expensive specialist clothing and difficulties with everyday activities, including travelling.
Summer Robert Says Her Breast Growth Began at Eight
Robert recalled noticing a dramatic change in her body when she was eight. According to her account, she went from having no noticeable breasts to developing a C-cup within days.
'I went from nothing to a C-cup overnight,' she said.
The sudden development continued as she grew older. By her early teens, Robert had reached an F-cup, while her classmates were still experiencing more typical stages of physical development.
She also described facing unwanted attention from adults during childhood. Robert said she was catcalled by grown men while walking home from school in her uniform. She claimed some of her female teachers told her to cover up because her chest was distracting boys in the classroom.
Finding suitable school clothes also became difficult as her body continued changing. Robert said she did not experience much criticism from other children but recalled hearing negative comments from parents at the school gate.
What Is Macromastia?
Macromastia is a medical condition characterised by excessive breast tissue growth, resulting in breasts that are disproportionately large relative to a person's body size. It can develop during different stages of life, including puberty and pregnancy, although its causes and progression can vary.
Gigantomastia is a related term generally used to describe particularly severe breast enlargement. The two terms are sometimes used interchangeably, but medical literature does not establish a universally accepted classification for the conditions.
Excessive breast growth can cause physical complications, including persistent neck, shoulder and back pain. The additional weight can also affect posture and contribute to skin irritation, rashes and discomfort beneath the breasts.
Model Spends Thousands on Bras and Pain Management
The condition has also created significant financial demands, particularly when it comes to finding suitable underwear and managing discomfort. Robert estimates that she spends approximately £14,000 ($18,700) a year on massages, up to £10,000 ($13,400) on bras and around £2,000 ($2,600) on private healthcare.
She said she once paid £875 ($1,170) for a specially made bra but outgrew it within four weeks as her breasts continued increasing in size. Her current estimated 30R bra size is already difficult to accommodate, and Robert believes her breasts may be approximately three cup sizes larger than the size she currently wears.
The model also says she receives three massages a week to help manage the physical strain. 'My shoulders are really sore, my posture is not good, I have a constant dent in my shoulders from the bra,' she said.
Travelling has presented another challenge. Robert regularly flies between Scotland, Australia, the United States and Europe for work and personal commitments. She claims to have taken more than 60 flights over the past nine months and has spent approximately £100,000 ($134,200) on air travel since November. Because of the difficulty of fitting comfortably into standard economy seating, she says she now travels in business class.
Summer Robert's Online Career and Personal Life
Robert previously worked in hospitality before entering the adult content industry at the age of 26. She said she left her previous job after experiencing unwanted attention and comments from male customers.
She began creating online content and reportedly earned £800 ($1,072) on her first night. Her following has since grown to almost 370,000 Instagram followers and approximately 27,000 subscribers on her adult content platform.
Robert claims to earn an average of £150,000 ($201,400) a month through her online work. She has also said her parents are supportive of her career.
The model has also spoken about her experiences with dating, saying her appearance has sometimes affected how potential partners approach her. She recalled receiving a message from a man on dating app Hinge who told her he was interested in her because of her breasts.
Robert's Breast Reduction Requests
Robert said she has approached doctors six times about breast reduction surgery since her teenage years but has not been approved for the procedure. She claimed some doctors considered her too young for surgery, while others raised concerns about her body mass index (BMI). She also said medical professionals warned that her breast tissue could grow again because of macromastia.
The model has not ruled out paying for private surgery in the future if the physical discomfort becomes more difficult to manage. However, Robert said she currently loves her body and does not plan to undergo surgery immediately.
