Glee series is officially getting a reboot @gleeofficial/Instagram

The Glee reboot is officially moving forward, with Disney+ and Hulu ordering a new series written by original co-creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan. The revival has already sparked speculation about returning cast members, with Lea Michele reportedly set to reprise Rachel Berry and Heather Morris hinting that Brittany Pierce could also be back.

The new series marks the return of the musical comedy more than a decade after its original run ended in 2015. The show followed the students and teachers involved in the New Directions show choir at the fictional William McKinley High School, combining musical performances with storylines about relationships, identity, bullying and growing up.

Although the series order confirms that the project is moving ahead, details about its storyline, production schedule and wider cast remain limited. Michele's reported involvement has given fans an early sign of a possible connection to the original series, while Morris's enthusiasm has added to the anticipation surrounding the revival.

Heather Morris Hints at Brittany's Return

Morris, who played Brittany Pierce throughout the original series, has fuelled discussion about whether she could return for the reboot. Her remark that Brittany is 'back for more' has prompted interest among fans eager to see the character again.

Brittany became one of Glee's most recognisable characters through her deadpan humour, unusual observations and relationship with Santana Lopez, played by Naya Rivera. Although initially introduced as a supporting cheerleader, Brittany gradually received more prominent storylines as the series developed.

Her relationship with Santana became one of the programme's major romantic arcs. The couple's journey towards accepting their feelings for one another, followed by their eventual marriage in the sixth season, was particularly significant to viewers invested in the show's LGBTQ+ representation.

Morris's possible return would let the reboot reconnect with a character whose popularity extended beyond her comedic moments. It could also link to the original show's later seasons, although no details have been released on whether the revival will continue Brittany and Santana's story. Rivera died in July 2020, and no announcement has indicated how, or whether, Santana would appear in the new series.

Lea Michele Reportedly Set To Return as Rachel Berry

Michele's reported return as Rachel Berry offers another potential link between the revival and the original cast. Rachel was one of the show's central characters, an ambitious performer whose determination to reach Broadway shaped much of the series.

Her rivalries and friendships with fellow New Directions members were central to the programme's early seasons. Rachel's story also explored the tension between pursuing professional success and maintaining personal relationships, eventually taking her beyond high school and towards a career in musical theatre.

Murphy, Falchuk and Brennan created the original series, which ran for six seasons on Fox between 2009 and 2015. Their involvement in the reboot brings together the creative team responsible for the show's original blend of comedy, drama and musical performances.

Murphy said he worked with his fellow co-creators on a new Glee script and contacted members of the original cast about the project. Those conversations sparked interest in a possible reunion, but they didn't confirm that every actor approached had agreed to participate.

What Is Confirmed About the Glee Reboot?

Disney+ and Hulu have ordered the new series, with Murphy, Falchuk and Brennan involved in writing the revival. However, the platforms have not announced a premiere date, a full cast list or a detailed synopsis.

The original Glee became a major television and music phenomenon, with cast recordings, concert tours, and covers of popular songs extending its reach beyond the screen. It also tackled discrimination, bullying, sexuality, and family pressures, giving the comedy-drama broader cultural impact.

The revival will face the challenge of appealing to longtime fans while establishing its own identity. Bringing back familiar characters could provide continuity, but the creative direction and balance between returning performers and new faces remain unknown. With the reboot now ordered, further announcements about casting, the storyline and the release schedule are likely to shape expectations for the next chapter of Glee.
