K-pop star G.NA has attracted renewed attention with a daring new photoshoot, nearly a decade after a prostitution controversy interrupted her career. Her recent appearance has also sparked interest in her music and a potential return to the entertainment industry.

On 21 October, G.NA shared several photos and videos on social media, captioned 'Peekaboo I see you'. The photoshoot featured an oversized black leather jacket, short lace clothing, floral-patterned mesh stockings, and high heels.

She posed against walls and on staircases while extending her legs in several images. Other images show her wearing transparent glasses and making playful expressions while taking selfies in a vehicle.

According to MediaFine, the shoot drew inspiration from Black Swan. She described the concept as mysterious and joked about the styling, saying, 'The shoes are a bit big. I'll have to practise walking'.

'Banana' Video Sparks Renewed Interest

The photos also prompted fans to revisit her earlier music, particularly Banana. An Instagram commenter questioned the reported restriction on the music video's broadcast. They also pointed out that G.NA was treated differently from other artists. In 2011, MBC reportedly deemed the video unfit for broadcast due to concerns about its lyrics and suggestive content. Fans further wondered whether it would ever be released.

One commenter specifically requested: 'Can you release the MV for his song??? Accidentally leak it?? Anything?? 'I've been dying to see it for over a decade; lipstick chicken butter roll is the most iconic misheard lyric of K-pop.' G.NA responded, 'Haha omg, thank you for remembering this song; it means so much'.

Plans to Revisit Her Music

In June, G.NA announced plans to remake 'I'll Back Off So You Can Live Better', one of her best-known songs, following a fan vote. She expressed excitement about sharing the finished version, though she has not announced a release date for the track.

Separately, in August, she attended the 2026 Kimchi & K-Food Festival in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada, serving as a special master of ceremonies and judge for the K-pop dance championship.

This was her first public event appearance in about a decade. Following the event, she described herself as feeling 'blessed' in a social media post. An October report featured a video of G.NA performing a new song. However, it remains unclear when fans will hear new music from her.

The Controversy Behind Her Hiatus

G.NA debuted in 2010 and is known for songs such as 'Black & White', '2HOT', and 'I'll Back Off So You Can Live Better'. Her career was interrupted in 2016 when she received a summary order and a fine of 2 million won (£1,128) in connection with a prostitution case under South Korean law.

At the time, she denied the allegations, stating that she and the other party were 'seeing each other because we were attracted to one another'. She subsequently suspended her entertainment activities and returned to Canada. There, she continued to share occasional updates with fans.

Fans Divided Over a Comeback

G.NA's legal case still shapes K-pop fans' perceptions regarding her future career opportunities. In a Reddit discussion about major mistakes by K-pop idols, one commenter stated that the prostitution case had basically ended her chances of appearing on South Korean broadcasts again. Another wrote: 'Gna couldn't even maintain her popularity as a singer prescandal, no coming back now'.

In a separate thread about G.NA's return as a host for a Canadian K-pop festival, some commenters supported her comeback. Others disagreed with characterising her as a victim of the entertainment industry and referenced the court's decision.

One participant acknowledged her actions were legally wrong but argued that the professional consequences were disproportionate to the offence. The discussion highlighted ongoing disagreement about whether G.NA should be given another opportunity in the industry. She has yet to announce any further details about her plans in music.
