Writer and actress Katy Brand has recalled threatening to leave a television project if Russell Brand was brought on board, saying her concerns about working with the comedian were dismissed by a producer.

The writer, who is not related to Russell Brand, reportedly described the incident as taking place in 2019, when she was involved in a television project. According to an account shared on Reddit's r/Fauxmoi, she said she made clear that she would not continue with the project if Russell Brand was cast.

Russell Brand on Trial

The account has resurfaced as Russell Brand prepares to face trial in London over criminal charges relating to alleged sexual offences. Brand has pleaded not guilty to all seven charges and denies allegations of non-consensual sexual activity. His trial is scheduled to begin at Southwark Crown Court on 12 October and is expected to last several weeks.

Katy Brand's reported recollection centres on the response she received from a producer after raising her concerns. She said the producer told her that her position was 'unpleasant to think about', according to the material shared in the Reddit post.

The account does not establish what the producer knew about the allegations at the time, nor does it show that Russell Brand was aware of the conversation. The incident described by Katy Brand concerns her own recollection of a professional discussion rather than a finding by a court.

Russell Brand has faced public allegations of sexual misconduct since 2023, when investigations by The Sunday Times, The Times and Channel 4's Dispatches reported claims from women on alleged incidents during the period of his television and radio career. Brand has consistently denied the allegations and has said his sexual relationships were consensual.

Facing Seven Charges

The legal position has since developed significantly. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) authorised charges in December 2025 following a Metropolitan Police investigation. The CPS said the further charges related to alleged non-recent offences involving two women. It also stressed that criminal proceedings were active and that Brand was entitled to a fair trial.

Russell Brand now faces seven charges involving six women. The charges include three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault and one count of indecent assault. He has pleaded not guilty.

Threatening To Leave a TV Show

Katy Brand's recollection comes against the backdrop of wider scrutiny of how concerns about Russell Brand were handled within the television industry. In 2024, Channel 4 published the findings of an internal investigation into whether the broadcaster had been aware of allegations against Brand during his time working on its programmes.

The investigation found no evidence that Channel 4 employees were aware of the allegations later broadcast by Dispatches. However, it identified a separate serious allegation made by a Channel 4 staff member in 2009 that was not properly escalated or investigated at the time. Channel 4 apologised to the former employee.

The writer's recollection adds another account from within the entertainment industry about concerns surrounding Russell Brand's professional reputation before the allegations became the subject of the 2023 investigations.

With Brand's criminal trial now days away, his legal position remains that he is not guilty of the charges against him. The court proceedings are due to begin on 12 October, when evidence relating to the charges will be considered by a jury. Until the conclusion of those proceedings, Brand remains entitled to the presumption of innocence.
