Kelly Ripa has revealed that whether she has shaved her legs can affect what she wears on Live with Kelly and Mark. Speaking on the programme's set on Tuesday, 8 September, the 55-year-old host said stylist Audrey Slater-Spiegel asks how many days of leg-hair growth she has before deciding whether an outfit should show her legs or call for trousers. The surprisingly specific question is part of the pair's established routine for dressing Ripa for daytime television.

'[Audrey] also knows when I don't feel like shaving my leg, so that's a pants leg,' Ripa said. She added that Slater-Spiegel will ask: 'What day of hair growth on your legs is this?' Slater-Spiegel said the two work closely enough to know each other's styles 'really, really well'.

Kelly Ripa's Stylist Knows Her Wardrobe Habits

Slater-Spiegel has dressed Ripa for years, with the stylist also credited on fashion shoots and major appearances for the former All My Children actress. Ripa has previously described Slater as her stylist while discussing the preparation behind awards-season looks. Their working relationship means wardrobe decisions can start with practical questions long before an outfit reaches the studio floor.

Ripa's television wardrobe has its own demands because much of Live involves sitting at a desk or on a stool in front of cameras. In a 2025 interview with daughter Lola Consuelos, Ripa said she generally avoids miniskirts for that reason, explaining: 'I really try not to, at this age, [wear miniskirts] — and especially since I spend most of my time sitting in a stool or a desk, I try to wear longer skirts.' She made an exception for the mother-daughter shoot but joked that 'past a certain age, you got to know when to hang up your disco shoes'.

She Ignores One Old-School Fashion Rule

Ripa is more flexible about another longstanding wardrobe convention: avoiding white after Labour Day. Asked about the rule while wearing white heels, she said: 'I don't follow that rule. I never follow that rule, I'm in white pants year round.' Labour Day fell on 7 September in the US this year, one day before the on-set conversation.

The comment reflects a wardrobe approach driven largely by what Ripa is comfortable wearing on camera rather than traditional fashion rules. Her comments about miniskirts show that the practicalities of hosting can shape those choices, while Slater-Spiegel adjusts the day's look around what Ripa is willing to wear. Her shaving routine adds another unusually candid factor to that process.

Ripa's 'Live' Wardrobe Comes Down to What Works

Ripa has hosted Live since 2001 and now fronts Live with Kelly and Mark alongside her husband, actor Mark Consuelos. She is also an executive producer of the nationally syndicated show and has won eight Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards for Outstanding Talk Show Host, according to her official Walt Disney Legends biography.

Live with Kelly and Mark is now in its 39th season, continuing Ripa's more than two-decade run as the franchise's mainstay host.

Consuelos works with stylist Esther Pak, with his wardrobe often leaning towards monochromatic looks while occasionally pushing him outside his usual choices.

Ripa's partnership with Slater-Spiegel is similarly collaborative, but the leg-hair comment offered an unusually specific look at the shorthand they have developed. On days when Kelly Ripa has not shaved, one of the biggest wardrobe decisions may already have been made: trousers it is.
