Maisie Williams once ordered a little magic from an Etsy witch. Later on, she ended up in Practical Magic 2, although apparently that wasn't the manifestation spell she paid for.
The Game of Thrones star once took manifesting her next role beyond vision boards and positive affirmations by hiring an actual witch on Etsy. There were instructions. There were words to repeat every night. There was just one tiny problem: the particular movie role she wanted never materialised.
'I paid an Etsy witch to give me a role. To help me manifest a role in a movie,' Williams revealed during a British Vogue interview at the London premiere of Practical Magic 2.
Williams said the Etsy seller gave her specific words to repeat as part of the ritual, and she committed to the assignment. 'I said them every night,' she recalled.
When asked whether it worked, Williams laughed. 'It didn't happen.'
But before anyone questions the Etsy witch's magical credentials, this story comes with a plot twist worthy of the Owens family. Williams may not have manifested that particular mystery movie, but she eventually landed Practical Magic 2 without hiring a witch at all.
And now she thinks she might be a witch herself.
The Etsy Witch Had One Job, but Fate Had Another
Williams gave Entertainment Tonight more context about her supernatural shopping experience, clarifying that the spell was intended for an entirely different film.
'I asked her to manifest me a role in a different movie that hasn't come out yet, and it didn't work,' Williams explained. When it came to Practical Magic 2, however, no Etsy assistance was required.
'With this one, I didn't ask an Etsy witch, but like I just got it on my own,' she said. That's when Williams reached a rather practical conclusion.
'So maybe I'm the Etsy witch. Well, the witch, and I'm not on Etsy, but maybe I should, like, start charging people for my services.'
From Etsy customer to potential competitor, that's one way to diversify a Hollywood career.
From Manifesting Movie Roles to Playing a Witch
The cosmic coincidence gets even better considering Williams' new character.
In Practical Magic 2, Williams plays Antonia Owens, one of Sally Owens' daughters. Antonia is training to become a neurosurgeon and initially approaches the world through science rather than embracing the spirituality and magic running through her family. Well, that's one way to put the 'practical' in the magic.
Williams herself seems to be the opposite of her sceptical on-screen character. She revealed that she avoids walking across three consecutive drain covers, referring to a British superstition associating the act with bad luck.
While the actress acknowledged that rituals can't actually control the uncontrollable, apparently a little superstition still provides some comfort.
'It makes me feel like everything is gonna be fine,' she said.
Perhaps the Magic Was Practical After All
Williams ultimately didn't get the film role she originally paid someone to help manifest.
Instead, she landed another movie entirely on her own, joined Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman's famous fictional family of witches and started joking about charging other people for her newfound magical powers.
That's certainly not what she ordered from Etsy, but every rerouted package finds its way home eventually. As for Maisie Williams, her package seemed to be addressed to a certain Antonia Owens. Now, that's the magic of trusting the process, redirection, and the power of your own witchcraft.
