Maison Margiela showed off its Havaianas collaboration on the runway during its Spring/Summer 2027 show at Milan Fashion Week, and it centres on two odd-looking pieces. MM6 featured the Slim 6Toe, a flip-flop built around a sculpted sixth toe, and the Top 6Layers, a platform sandal made by stacking six differently shaped soles on top of each other like a wonky game of Jenga.
The wider collaboration is due to launch in May 2027. Unfortunately for those hoping to purchase this strange design, the Top 6Layers was made specifically for the runway and will not be sold. Neither brand has said what, if anything, takes its place on shop shelves next year.
What Are the MM6 x Havaianas Designs?
Maison Margiela's main line built its entire reputation on the Tabi, the split-toe boot that has spent decades dividing opinion by separating the big toe from the rest of the foot. Their sandal collaboration works in the opposite direction, adding a digit rather than isolating one.
The Slim 6Toe reimagines the classic Havaianas silhouette through a barefoot-inspired shape, extending the toe area into a six-part form rather than the usual single thong strap. It is an unexpected take clearly designed to challenge convention rather than blend in on the beach, and it will turn heads whether you love it or find it faintly unsettling.

Both designs use the number six as their organising idea, running it through the toe construction on one piece and the layered sole on the other. It cleverly ties the concept back to the MM6's signature number-six motif.
Is the Slim 6Toe Available to Purchase?
Yes. Unlike the Top 6Layers, which was built purely as a runway statement, the Slim 6Toe is confirmed for public release as part of the wider collection. That makes it the piece worth actually keeping on your radar if the design has caught your eye.
The full collection is set to launch globally in May 2027. Price, sizing, colourways, launch markets and which retailers will stock the Slim 6Toe have not yet been announced, so anyone keen to get their hands on a pair will need to wait for further details closer to the date.

MM6 is not the only name pushing the humble flip-flop somewhere strange this year. Havaianas turned heads earlier in 2026 when it unveiled a kitten-heel version of its classic sandal for Copenhagen Fashion Week, giving the beach staple a genuine heel for the first time in the brand's history.
The brand has also spent the year experimenting with high-profile fashion crossovers, from tie-dye prints in partnership with Isabel Marant to playful toe-ring accessories designed with TwoJeys. Against that backdrop, the Margiela tie-up looks less like a one-off stunt and more like the latest, weirdest chapter in a brand deliberately rewriting what a flip-flop is allowed to look like.
Whichever design caught your eye, only the Slim 6Toe is actually walking out of Milan and into shops next May. The Top 6Layers stays exactly where it was born: on the runway, six soles deep, and never for sale.
