Paramount+ has greenlit a six-episode sequel series to the classic 1995 teen comedy Clueless. Original lead actress Alicia Silverstone returns to reprise her iconic role as Cher Horowitz.
The streaming platform stepped forward to rescue the project after it was dropped by rival subscription service Peacock earlier this year.
The revival series takes place 30 years after the events of the original movie, setting the story to the present day. In this new chapter, Cher has built a successful business career and settled into family life in Beverly Hills. However, her world changes when her teenage daughter enters high school.
From Clueless Teen to Clueless Parent of a Teen
According to the official plot summary, Cher discovers that being a mother to a teenager is not easy. Cher discovers that guiding a teenager makes her feel 'clueless' again.
The journey to bring Cher back to television screens has been long and complex. The project was first announced in early 2025 under active development at Peacock. In April 2026, Peacock decided not to proceed with the series, leaving its ultimate fate uncertain. Due to strong ongoing interest in the beloved franchise, Paramount+ acquired the project.
The story has come full circle, returning the franchise to the studio that originally released the hit movie.
Meet the Creative Team
Besides playing the lead role, Silverstone will serve as an executive producer on the programme. She is joined by Amy Heckerling, the original writer and director of the 1995 film, and film producer Robert Lawrence. The creative team also features prominent television writers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage.
Savage is celebrated for hits such as The O.C. and Gossip Girl. Jordan Weiss, the creator of Dollface, joins the creative team.
CBS Studios will produce the series for the platform. Filming is scheduled to begin across Los Angeles in 2027. Official production records show that the team has already submitted key paperwork to the California Film Commission in pursuit of state production tax credits.
Filming directly on location honours the original movie's memorable Beverly Hills setting while providing valuable employment opportunities for local production crews and creative entertainment workers throughout the city.
Jane Wiseman, Head of Originals for Paramount+, welcomed the announcement with enthusiasm. She noted that Cher Horowitz captured the hearts of audiences 31 years ago through her distinct fashion, sharp wit, and unwavering optimism.
Wiseman stated that bringing the story home to Paramount while filming in Los Angeles marks an important milestone for the streamer.

Silverstone has spoken about her personal joy at returning to her breakout role. She shared that Cher has matured naturally over the past three decades. Silverstone added that Cher has adopted a more thoughtful and conscious approach to fashion and daily life while maintaining her signature warmth.
The original Clueless film remains a major pop culture landmark, having recently celebrated its 30th anniversary with cast reunions. The film has also been inducted into the United States National Film Registry.
With six episodes ordered and production set to start next year, audiences can prepare to see how Cher handles the challenges of modern parenting.
